| Quote: leythdave "According to one of the back room staff, Salford had 7 players out, in what would have made the first team squad, as they were still in Oz.
So by HIS admission, Salford fielded 10 first teamers yesterday.
So in effect Salford was almost at full strength.'"
Are you really that stupid?
10 first teamers? are you joking? out of our starting 13 we would have for super league we had Matty smith, Jodie broughton, Chris Nero, Wayne Godwin and Steven Wild. so thats 5 first team starters who have never played together before apart from matty smith and jodie broughton the rest are fringe players who make up the squad or reserves even then only matty smith had a full game out of them 5 the rest were only on for 10 20 min spells, we had two players brought in from folly lane on trails, our first team would of been.
1. Luke Patten Gibson
2. Ashley Gibson 65 mins Gleeson
3. Chris Nero 58 mins Chris Nero
4. Mark Henry Adam Clay
5. Jodie broughton 65 mins Jodie Broughton
6. Daniel Holdsworth Stefan Ratchford
7. Matty Smith Matty Smith
8. Ray Cashmere Adam Sidlow
9. Wayne Godwin 30 mins Gareth Owen
10. Feka, Ryan Boyle
11. V. Anderson Jack Spencer
12. Ryan Baily Adam Neil
13. Steven Wild 51 mins Steven Wild
14. Luke Adamson Wayne Godwin
15. Rob Parker Mark Sneyd
16. Stefan Ratchford 80 mins A/n other Academy
17. Lee Jewitt 22 mins A/n other Academy
18. Adam Sidlow 25 mins A/n Other Academy
The players highlighted in red are most likley the 18 every week so we had 5 starters and 3 subs playing from the entire 18 so we had 10 players out, 8 starting and 2 subs, now tell me that we had a full strength team out, by the way ive posted how long each player was on the field for. plus the Green is what 18 was playing yesterday compared to the strongest 18.

| No matter how people try to dress it up, the following players are all first team Super League players who are much more highly paid and rated than their Leigh counterparts: Ashley Gibson, Jodie Broughton, Chris Nero, Sean Gleeson, Stefan Ratchford, Matty Smith, Lee Jewitt, Adam Sidlow, Wayne Godwin, Ryan Boyle, Stephen Wild. If Leigh had the luxury of fielding 8 overseas players during the regular season, we would also rack up cricket scores against championship opposition. Salford had some pretty decent English talent out there yesterday and a good Aussie centre. The sad part of this is how yesterday exposed just how much Super League teams rely on overseas talent to allow them to compete.

Blame him for what? that game was just a warm up match to clean away the cobwebs and try and test the kids and fringe players, we would of gained absolutely nothing from playing a full strength side and whooping you by 60 why do you think Mcrea let the Oz players have an extra week back home and rest other players also.
I knew before I set off that it would be a weak side but didn't realise until warm up how weak it was.
I say well played to Leigh for the warm up game but don't start getting all giddy like you've just shocked the world.

And bar two none of them played the full game, Our forward pack was largely made up of kids and those were the guys who were falling off tackles and dropping balls.
Like i said going to the LSV to win the game wasn't Mcrea's aim in the first place.
No salford fan there last night was bothered what so ever about the result it was all about the warm up to the season.

| Well done to Leigh on their win, but as a previous poster has mentioned I'd say this highlights how reliant some SL clubs are on their overseas contingent. To be honest, a lot of English players in SL are in no way any better than their Championship counterparts, just slightly fitter.

| I am also not bothered about the result. Friendlies are obviously not about that. However, I am sure you can understand the need for a balanced assessment of what took place yesterday. Salford did field some younger less experienced players yesterday, but so did Leigh (players who have not even played championship level rugby yet) . In addition, Leigh did not field even one overseas player (not even a Yorkie). I am not thrilled by the result, but I am pleased by the way Leigh stood up to a set of Salford players who are much more higly rated than themselves. If both Salford and Leigh were allowed to add say half a dozen Antipodeans to the lineups yesterday, we would also see a good competitive game. Unfortunately, Leigh will not enjoy that luxury this season, as we do not have one single quota player.

| RESULT MEANT NOTHING!! BUT NICE TO TAKE THE WIN.
THOUGHT THAT BOTH SIDES PLAYED WELL REALLY AS A FIRST OUTING.
SALFORD WILL GET BETTER AND ON A DIFFERENT DAY WILL PROBABLY BEAT US ,BUT NOT BY A CRICKET SCORE.
WAS A LITTLE BEMUSED TO SEE A LACK OF SALFORD SPECTATORS, BUT WELL DONE THOSE THAT CAME DOWN .

| Maybe so, but unfortunately that would only mainly highlight what we already know, that British players struggle to compete with Aussies and Kiwis at the moment.

Listen pal you keep saying along with other leythers trying to make some sort of a point, buts its the same for almost every SL side and even before SL it was the case, actually my lobby gobbling friend od like you to name me one major sport in this country what doesn't rely on oversea's players? And plus it just shows how pathetically funded grass roots and academy level rugby league is, this is the problem it always has been yet nothing has ever been done about it.
