| Quote: valvehunter "You can't fault DB's financial commitment to Leigh, however, that comes at a cost. DB wants full control & involvement within everything involving the establishment. The situation Leigh are in at the moment is due to DB's impulsive poor decision making. Leigh in 2015 had a fantastic season, they went unbeaten for 20 games or so, beat Wakey, Salford & almost beat Wire in the challenge cup. Leigh won a lot of fans over as they played exciting rugby. However, due to that cc success they had a back log of games to play then came the middle 8 play offs. Therefore, Leigh was flat mentally & physically. Instead of using this as an experience, keeping that squad together & adding to it, deggsy decided to disrupt the squad by bringing in the likes of chase etc & interfering with rowley & his coaching, hence why rowley left. With these kind of decisions you're inviting problems. Okay Leigh got promoted the season after, however, keeping ageing players to play week in week out within SL is a tall order, it was okay in the championship but not for SL, hence why they were relegated. With the ageing players & again poor decisions by deggsy signing the likes of stewart you're only inviting problems, which it proved. What could stewart do that goulden couldn't ? As riddy proved on sunday ... poor decsions are and have been made & that's come from person in charge !! (No doubt I will get the rowley didn't get us in SL replies, it wasn't rowley's fault that Leigh didn't reach SL it was circumstances).'"
I don't remember you posting congratulations to DB for getting us promoted to SL 2016
Was our promotion also due to DBs impulsive decision making ? Or, are you posting with the benefit of hindsight ?

| Quote: LeythIg "DB does have to take responsibility for his decisions, but the single biggest error he made was keeping Jukes in charge after the MPG.
Some points to counter some of this post though;
- 2015 8s showed that the pack was not good enough, so players like Paterson, Maitua, Hansen and Weston were brought in. The average age of our pack probably went down in 2016 when you consider they replaced Goulden, Aspinwall and Wilkes
- Riddy case was very bad man management, and my understanding was a decision by Jukes, not DB.
- As big a fan as I was of Tommy Goulden in a Leigh shirt, he retired at the end of 2015, is 2 or 3 years older than Glenn Stewart and not as good a player. GS was one of the best players in SL in the year before we signed him, and we needed a second row to replace the retiring Reni Maitua. Unfortunately we had a coach who chose to use him as an extra half back (see a theme developing here)'"
I agree about Stewart he was one of the worst passers of the ball Leigh had so couldn't understand why they kept trying to make him play like o'loughlin from wigan,if they wanted a forward to do that why not Patterson who could pass and has play 6 in the past

| The forwards of 2015 where good enough during the cc where good enough then wasn't they against Salford, Wakefield etc. After talking to the players themselves at the end of that season, as I say it was more to do with circumstances - playing a back log of games due to the challenge cup run then facing the middle 8 play offs was a reach too far. Therefore, adding to the squad would have been ideal ... not disrupt it. And as for Stewart I don't know where this "best player in Super League" is coming from. He had a few good games for Catalans but like Alex murphy said ... good players play well all the time !!

Could be wrong here, but I dont remember a "backlog" of games. There is usually a "free" weekend for the cup games.

It was the championship games. Leigh had to play something like 5 games within two weeks or something silly like that towards the end of the 2015 season. Have a look at the fixtures and dates at the end of that season it was stupid, I recall Rowley & Deggsy asking for help from the RFL concerning these fixtures.

I'd forgotten that one too. Strangely we also drew (32-32) there the season after.

The pack was found wanting in the 8s in 2015. Probably evidenced by where a number of players moved onto. 2 into league 1 (Wilkes, Aspinwall), 2 playing championship shield in 2016 (Haggerty and Sarsfield), 1 retired (Goulden) and one banned (Barlow). The fixture backlog was an excuse. In fact, Rowley had a squad of 30 that year, chose not to use it in meaningless games.
As for Stewart, I said "one of" the best players. He was in the top 10 or so the MoS votes in 2016. Yet you asked why we had all these old men, then asked what Stewart could do that Goulden can't. Goulden was (still is!) 3 years older and retired!

Jonny Pownall went the full length of the field late Alan, to score in front of where the Leigh fans were. It was a huge following from Leigh as well.
The following season we were 32-6 up and ended up 32-32 !
My memory does not seem as bad as some people believe

100% correct, He continued to ask his first choice 17 to back up the games , when top position was theoretically sown up. I could not believe it ! Come the 8's Ridyard and Brierley especially were carrying injuries and were gone.
As for Glenn Stewart, he was the best back rower in SL in 2016 !
