| Quote: Alan "Steve, if you were at the last Forum, and listened to the Finances presentation, I would suggest that the 'short-term' has not yet been fixed at all, and isn't likely to be until the end of the year.
I suppose it depends on your definition of 'short-term', but the problems we were facing then haven't exactly gone away, and are still being addressed.
Sure, we must look to the future, but we daren't take our eyes off the immediate future.'"
The short term or immediate future is in the hands of the players now, I dont see what the administration can do apart from ' Door knocking ' at sponsors and general ' rich people ' , unfortunatly our club has a long history of short termism, thats why we are in the predicament we find ourselves

No , its simple
For some reason the quote function isnt working
You mentioned marketing and community
What marketing? , have we ever done any? , have we ever had a marketing budget?
As for the community, it has been neglected since we left Hilton Park, support it properly, challenge it, give it the tools to do the job and you get results

Steve can I just ask how you know this, or are you just 'assuming' again, going off what previous administrations did?
It would help when you make accusations like this, if you came up with some solid facts to back up your claims.

And I am not belittling anybodies efforts above, you are all passionate about your particular forte, would you be as passionate if you were told to swap jobs? So in effect you are proving my case for me, horses for courses and all that, we have a request for volunteers partly for an event 5 days away and to form an ' event team ' , we used to have an ' event team ' , it tended to comprise Hannah,Heather quite often ably supported by Gill and Diana

Yes, you quite clearly state that Leigh have always suffered from 'short termism', and imply that because of this, the current board must also suffer from this affliction. I was simply asking you how do you know they aren't making long term plans?
In fact I would suggest that the opposite is true and that whilst trying to balance the books for this season is the main priority, there is definitely a long term strategy in place.

I'll bow to your superior knowledge, and look forward to a bright future for the club , it'll be interesting to see how they will achieve it, maybe a Supporters Trust as I first suggested in the O/P, a bit like Barcelona

| Jeez a few days out from here and the world appears to have gone mad!! Here's what I reckon will happen
1) present regime will run club for next 2 years
2) Rfl in that time period will revert back to P&R
3) someone with money will get involved with club via current set up
4) he/she will take over
5) cross roads we go on to have great times/ or go tits up
6) repeat steps 1-5!!

| - or the club will read the whole of this thread and think "Why the f**k should we bother?" the fans are squabbling, then what's the point ?? ... And it seems to me that Maurice is trying to push his £1000 shareholders scheme again. It hasn't happened before, and won't this time. There isn't the cash, there Mo .... You may have it, but most of us don't ....

| I am a little out of the Leigh RL loop these days, in fact my only real connection is coming on here and catching up every day.
However as someone heavily involved in a ST in another sport, and one that has raised over £1.6M in community shares towards funds to build a ground to play in, I am wondering why people think it won't work at Leigh RL?
For the record, at the the moment, I don't think it would work at Leigh, and I am only taking this forum as a barometer, then there aren't enough fans behind it for one reason or another. But my question is, to the people who aren't into this idea, why?

Whilst I applaud the efforts made by the 2 guys who did the finance presentation, if they are having a direct input on how we move forward overall then we should all fear the worst. Their message to us all was unless Paul and the lads win everything this year, seemingly including the Challenge Cup and perhaps also the next series of X Factor, we are doomed.
We need people who are a bit more dynamic with the ability to head problems off at the pass, not a pair of doom mongers reporting on historic information which frankly is patently obvious with the crowds we are generating.
Starbug has commented previously that we seem to exist only on a short term basis and he is absolutely spot on - within our fan base and more than likely the Touchdown Corporate people we must be able to draw upon more dynamic business people who have the ability to make things happen and to make it happen over the medium and long term. Our short term fix has been highly successful and Trevor and the PSG are to be applauded for that. Surely the time is now right to acknowledge that they have done a great job, however the fact they have the free time to get involved every week cannot be the main reason for their involvement.
If people don't understand this just look at Fev who have been advertising and marketing their Destination Super League campaign all season, which quite obviously is a 3 year plan to demonstrate sustainability at that level. In comparison our focus is to limp through this season with no strategic aims or targets - we need to learn this is why we are where we are and fast, get people involved to add value and start making things happen.

So if we all give up we'll need someone to do the programme (anyone got 30+ spare hours a week?), we also need someone to continue the work started by John with the Junior Centurions and then someone with the technical knowledge to run the radio...oh and a couple of guys who are qualified accountants to trawl through the accounts).
I've read your CV The Prophet and you sound like just the guy who can do all of the above and much, much more......the job is yours.

| Quote: Starbug "SCL is 10 years old this year, and throughout its history it has needed extra financial input over and above what it can ' earn ' to operate as a competitive Championship club, for the 1st 4 years it was the original income suppled by the ' consortium ' , for the next 5 years it was Arthur Thomas's individual generosity, we currently are operating at a lower level than in the past, but ultimatley that will not be able to continue indefinatley .
Clubs find their income in different ways, some have individual backers, some are located in large towns/citys and are able to bring in significant corporate/sponsorship , some clubs can make income because they own their stadiums
It would appear we will have to find a different option, essentially we need to dramatically increase our support base, or get our existing support to donate more than they currently do, the 1 st option would require a significant increase in both our general marketing activity and our community work, I believe in the near future the 2 nd option will be put before the clubs supporters in the form of a supporters trust, while this might on the face of it seem a good idea ( Barcelona are a ST, and are the often used example by those who see them as a positive ) however for every FCB, there are hundreds of Rochdale /Hunslets
So do we want a ST? , it would probably remove any chance of ever making SL, and also of ever attracting a single major investor
As I seem to have upset most of the MB, those of you who dont wish to read anything not rose tinted can ignore this thread'"
I haven't read this whole thread, I haven't the time but i'll just reiterate what I said (but more polite )in one of my first posts here two years ago:
Leigh is a small town, you aren't a big club and no matter how much your fans harp on about the hardships you receive from the RFL you're never going to be anymore. The fact is you're destined to be another Rochdale, you have to cut cloth. For years now you've wanted to sit at the big boy's table and the simple fact is the people ARE JUST NOT INTERESTED and while you cling onto this hope you may well end up going into admin time after time.
I'm not saying Leigh could never be a big club again, but unless you have the financial stability you must stop chasing the dream and if thats in championship 1.. so be it, it won't be that low but chasing dreams has ruined many a club. Stop doing it, budget, put out a team you can afford to and if one day you find yourself in SL.. you'll be a damn sight better off for it but the harsh probability is.. no ones interested in watching a coal mining village team play
