This comment says a lot about your character of a person. You think verbally abusing people is fine, I wonder how you’d feel about that if you or members of your family were regularly subjected to verbal abuse.

People signing up to be referee’s are not signing up to take a constant stream of verbal abuse. Many will give up refereeing or not even bother in the first place because of that, this is something the game can’t afford to happen.

The grade E on both seems over the top. The tackle was aggressive but there was no intent with Matautia. Dawson's commitment overflowed but again a Grafe E. Could have massive implications for the team, not sure why we bother with the challenge cup wish we could take a bye like Toulouse!

Didn't the referee refuse the advice of the TJ, to have a look at the obstruction? He certainly used the VR for all our tries!

That said, there's no excuse for the outburst from Dawson. Presumably the difference between Dawson's offence and Lussick's zero match penalty (at Warrington) is that Dawson was 'questioning the integrity of the official', while Lussick was using 'foul and abusive language' towards the match official. You will note that there is no reference to 'foul and abusive language' in the charge against Dawson. I guess that type of language must be ok then?

It is an issue with all clubs in both the professional and amateur game. However from what I have seen first hand, the worst fans for foul language and verbal abuse towards match officials are Leigh and Hull.

That's the way I would see it too. However, I chatted to a former referee, with Super League experience a few months ago. (he's packed in) He said he could handle the abuse from fans of either, or both sides, but what he couldn't handle was the 'abuse' from his 'line management' at Red Hall. Hopefully things have changed since then, with the recent review. Now things have to change, on the pitch - and that's why I believe the disciplinary process has got it right with Matty Dawson.

The refs switch between using rules of VR refs to in-goal refs without the VR, to nothing only their own decision and then trial another version at Summer Bash.

Possibly if they had a stable standard to start with rather than thinking what match I’m reffing, they may stand a chance..
