I second that.
I'm sure things will come together eventually but we really do need to stop playing the boring forwards game and getting beat at it week in, week out. We are doing the basics so poor like supporting the man with the ball and running angles, we just don't do it and make hardly any yards. Our Left hand side defence got showed up again last night. On a positive note a great return from Rudd and surely he now deserves a run in the team and hopefully the rest of the team will copy him and run onto the ball

| If Rudd is not the 1st name on the team sheet at Batley, there is something seriously wrong............watched him closely last night and the lad was superb in both attack and defence.
Welcome back Adam (at last).

..... and I'll be standing in the Hilton Park stand, yes that's right I've named the North Stand myself: |
|
| This is the way Kelly's teams have always played but he's had better personnel to put it into practice.
Thought we'd turned a corner at the back end of last season but seem to have gone backwards in the off season and never recovered.
Let's hope we can turn another corner... very soon.

Stuart will be good at stand off but the forwards aren't setting a platform for he and Watson to play with.
No drive, no go forward, no penetration. We looked a yard or two slower a lot of the time and their doesn't seem to be any urgency.

Can't remember him playing at S/O in his youth for us or anytime during his time in SL.
Learned most of his trade @ Full Back and would benefit Leigh best playing there for us now.

Stuart played stand off on the Academy, before graduating to the first team.

Where he played FB unless I'm missing something.
His experience there at the moment would be invaluble. Turley had the chance to learn his first team trade behind a very good team - Mort doesn't have that luxury

Just responding to where you said you 'couldn't remember him playing stand off for us in his youth.'
For what it's worth, I am on record, on here, as saying Donlan must be full back - he's wasted anywhere else. But, I also think Mort has tremedous potential, as full back - but believe he should be on the wing, at the moment. He is a try scorer, kicks goals for fun, and can (usually!) take the high ball.

1030.gif [quote="littlerich":1czuya0c]Widnes will be glad to get away from Leigh. They've been regularly pumped, roasted and left in the alley-way by the lobbygobblers. Talk about being bitched - what a torrid time they've had. They'll be looking for some A&E rest time for the next three years at least.[/quote:1czuya0c]:1030.gif |

I'm with you on this. Donlan should be full back but I also think Mort should be in the team (he had a good game last night and he can kick goals). Do we drop Mort to play Donlan in arguably his best position at full back or do we try to fit Donlan in elsewhere to accomodate Mort at full back? Thinking long-term I'd go with the latter, I think Mort has lots of potential.
As for what's going wrong? Well where do we start?
We're trying to play a simple brand of rugby which is all well and good if you can respect position and the laws of the game, but we just can't help ourselves can we? Every game we give away stupid penalties and make basic mistakes that inevitably end up costing us. Last night was a case in point. Fev weren't much better than us and didn't exactly play an expansive game, but they respected possession and field position better than we did (especially in the second half) and crucially took their chances when we presented them.
I remember Kelly saying, when he first joined, that the entertaining rugby and the expansive game would come when we started respecting possession and discipline but the mistakes and the penalties are still there. Once again we find ourselves at the bottom of the Fair Play Index. How many years are we going to have to put up with an ill-disciplined team? It's not just the penalties but it's the timing. We seem to be masters at giving them away on the 4th or 5th tackle.
We do play a bland brand of rugby at times but when we threw it about last night we came away with some points. We should be playing a more expansive game and coming from someone who has backed Kelly so far, I am disappointed that the team looks so reluctant to throw it about. Something is going wrong somewhere, but I don't think the whole blame can be lumped on Neil Kelly. The same problems seem to exist that became apparant especially during Abram's reign and they've been around ever since.
