| Quote: Alan "So, to get back from the name calling etc, what would be the position if the two players in question were to get new clubs? (both the named players are rumoured, in the trade press, to be on the radar of a number of clubs, including SL) Would their deal at a new club be expected to be funded by a pay off from Leigh, or would they expect to be paid by both clubs, for the remaining duration of their Leigh contract?
Oh, and as an aside, did we really give a three year contract to a player who was 'crocked'?'"
I thought the deal from Leigh was they could leave on a free. No signing on fee as such.

| Quote: Alan "Can understand that sort of deal if you want to keep a top class player, with other clubs sniffing around, but I don't belive we had anyone of that calibre last year.
He should of been on a pay to play deal, that way he'd only get rewarded for not being an absolutely moron. Missed how many of our toughest run of matches i.e. the Middle 8's

| Seems to me no players means no rugby in 2019. ( are there really 20 decent players sitting around waiting for a call from Leigh??)
An off season gives us a year to form a club, build a team find a ground and get a coach - none of this is easy!

| Can't see RFL letting Leigh have 2019 off. Bulls considered this approach for 2017 but RFL rejected it.

Players we will find , how ' decent ' in relation to us being in the Championship will be the issue , I'd expect us to max out the loan rules and DR
Doubt it will be pretty , but plenty of clubs are/have had decades of similar seasons , we will overcome whatever next season brings , and build again
Going to be very difficult for Derek to escape massive criticism and be regarded as having damaged the club , which is a shame as I do believe he genuinely tried his best for the fans and the town , in truth this is what I was worried about when I heard he was getting involved again , rarely does any owner leave a sports club in a good light , Similarily coaches , the vast majority leave on bad terms
Pro sport eh ! , who'd be daft enough to put money into one ?

| Quote: Alan "Steve, I really admire your apparently relaxed attitude to all this - especially after all the time and money that you and Lynda must have given, and are still giving, to the club.
As someone else who put a few years of my life into helping our club, I feel extremely frustrated and disappointed at what has happened and, for me, it has meant, and still means, an awful lot more than just buying my ticket and turning up.
Anyway, if you have any of that eternal optimism bottled, would you be willing to sell me any of it?!
How many sports clubs are owned and financed to the point where the fans are totally happy ?
Perhaps Man City in the PL , every other club from United/Chelsea,Arsenal all the way down the bottom of League 2 and the many non league clubs below them are chasing that one club , that is owned , sponsored and funded by a country
We have a historical position within the UK RL structure , somewhere between 12 th and 16/17 th , that is because that is where our location puts us with regards the finance our support base provides , we are a small town surrounded by some of the biggest sporting names in the world in football , and also the much smaller sport of RL , it ill always be a struggle , but you are born where you are born and that's it
As I have posted several times in the past , the move to the LSV ( remember we had no choice at the time ) should have been our chance to increase that support base perhaps to a level similar to Cas , they are our ' target ' , our aspiration
We have failed to do this , and that is why we remain where we are , and will potentially see similar cycles to the one we have jut seen over the last few years
Derek was very close to breaking that cycle , just a dropped ball

Indeed , however if you had a fans ' poll ' on it I think you'd find several different definitions of ' capable '
As I've put before , no owner is ever rich enough , unless you're Man City

You can't compare the round ball game to RL. They invest for a return. DB did well, but lost the plot come SL. When questioned by the fans on Jukes, his return was to question the fans. Rich mans way of spitting his dummy out.
Onward and upwards.

I think you've missed my point , it is that no matter how rich somebody is , there will be in the fans opinion somebody else who is a better owner because he has and is willing to spend more

| So we are at a situation as Gubby describes as a game of Poker in 'who blinks first', it seems to me through Mr B's statement that he has put an exit deal forward to the two player's in question that he is not prepared to increase nor are they prepared to accept, If Mr B holds out the club goes into Liquidation, the club will be no more and the player's don't recieve a penny, on the other hand Mr B will never ever see his loan repayed but does that bother him as much as the disgrace and probably recieving a lifetime ban from the RFL as being a director of a club, if that happened and no one else comes forward with enough money to formulate a buisness plan to submit to the RFL for the acceptance a new club, then RL in the professional sense may be completely lost to Leigh.
So back to the original question 'who blinks first' if as reported both player's have the opportunity of employment eleswhere in my opinion they should take the reduced settlement and go, if I were Mr B, I would get a couple of matchsticks to keep my eye's open ensuring he does not blink, I would not go to court and encur further expense, he simply can't afford to keep throwing money at it, going to court losing and paying out in full would most probably mean liquidation anyway, he has admitted that he has taken full responsibillity for employing all the player's this season and that is the reason for our demise, he did that in good faith for the betterment of the club, and 99% of people experts, scribes and fan's from all clubs thought he was correct, what he has fallen short of saying so I will say it for him:-
Those prima donna's that where payed good money to do a job for the club wiped their R'soles on the Leigh rugby shirt and threw it back at him, they alone are the reason the club is in this situation, not Mr B, nor the coaches, they themselves the player's, not many of them (there are a few exceptions) I do not believe can look in the eye's of that man in mirror and say I earned my money, I gave it my all.

Most sensible post yet. Stop blaming Jukes Etc the players who we employed are responsible for the performances, The people who paid out good money for these players need to ask why we paid out such money in the championship for these players

| Lets not forget this is the 2nd season we held players to ransom over unpaid contracts.
Its all well and good Maurice & Co stating its a business and redundancies are part of business life, that would be easier for your average fan to take if it were players that had some history with the club i.e Ridyard, Higson, Beswick, Dixon, McNally.
Everyone knows Derek went or bust with a big budget, albeit partly funded by himself and lost.
That's what makes it so much harder to take.
