Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Quote: salfordlad "There are currently only Wire Pies Saints Leeds and Hull with such crowds.
They I am sure will see sense as will the rest.'"
I said ' close to ' , not over 10'000 ,that would include Bradford,HKR, Wakey and Cas
Come on frank, I'm sure you can do the maths

| Well it will come as no surprise to you or I am sure everyone else that maths is one of my better subjects.
None of the clubs you mention average anywhere near 10k crowds and never will do under a licenscing system.

953.jpg 2015 - major missed opportunity, 2016 - stronger teams = harder task (no problem there then), 2017 - OMG What now!!!:953.jpg |
|
| Quote: leighonardo "The 2014 season is vital in preparation for a new structure in 2015. To win it will mean £650k in Leigh's coffers for 2015. To be runners up will mean Leigh receiving a cheque to the tune of a cool £500k. To finish outside those positions will effectively mean a pittance heading in the clubs direction.
Have you any idea how much of a boost that kind of cash for a top 2 position will do for Leigh's chances of success in any new structure and how the club may actually fare without it?
Therefore the 2014 season has now added importance than ever , extra spice and interest where we need to get off to a flyer, effectively seeking a major advantage in preparation for 2015. Once the new structure proposals are rubber stamped I will have my ST for this campaign like a shot.
As it stands and if the Championship continues as it is now, I will probably try and make an effort to see the Halifax and Fev home games. As for the other matches I don't think I could care less until perhaps the play offs. I have got far to much going on these days.
You may still be excited about the game at Championship level and fair enough. Quite frankly and increasingly so over the past few years I have been bored to tears by it.
A quick look at the ever decreasing crowds whilst inside the stadium suggests I far from alone in that view point recently..'"
Good of you to help fund the team. If 2014 is so pivotal why can't you bring yourself to support them. If everyone just came out for a couple of games, you should prepare yourself for having no team to support. But hey at least you will have saved the money you spent the previous season.

| Top post demon, folk profess to want a club to follow as and when they choose and leave it to others to keep alive for the odd game they wish to attend
I will miss at least half the games next year but bought my season ticket because for £160 I want my club still to be here in the future, I urge others to do the same and back what I feel will be a great 2014

Hi Leo
Your numbers you quote are not a million miles away from the actual figures within the proposal and you are right to some degree though I would urge you to reconsider your position if at all possible.
The new distribution of monies under the new proposal while heavily loaded in favour of the top two still mean that the third and forth place teams receive a big increase on previous years and indeed the rest of the league receive a better allocation than ever before so hardly a pittance. What I'm getting at is the new structure in my opinion will help the progress of the whole game not just the SL and top two from Championship and in my opinion will help revive the whole game and filter down to the Community game that's why so many people are keen to see it pushed through and ratified ASAP.
Because this possible structure change coincides with a new board at our club of and myself and some of the other Directors have invested and committed to long term investment to safeguard the club it means we are now forward thinking and not looking over our shoulder as an ambitious club with aspirations of bigger and better things and we've identified we need to in the top two next season as the reality is if we are not it's going to be very hard to overcome the the two that do make it as well as the possible two coming down from SL in 2015 but it doesn't mean that the overall strength of the championship comp will not be improved also and for me the standard of this comp will never have been better.
Your right the increased cash will give us an opportunity to further improve the squad and make more players if not all full time ready for SL but our main source of income and ability to grow the club will always come from existing revenue streams and none are more important to the club than people like yourself coming along and backing us and season ticket sales are key!
I fully understand your frustrations as prior to getting involved I was guilty of picking and choosing my games mainly due to other commitments but also the fact we didn't seem to be going anywhere and the door to SL was shut but once you are involved you truly realise just how important ever single supporter and indeed every season ticket is not just to the chances of success but also to make sure we have a club for the kids to grow up watching and future generations to cherish like we have been lucky to.
Hope to see you in 2014.
Cheers

Can I just add (sorry to go on) whatever the structure next year Leigh Centurions will be strong and Derek Beaumont and Paul are convinced the style of RL we will play will be well worth the price of a season ticket alone.
Please back us and back Paul and the lads by buying a ST and don't forget if you can't get to every game there are a few different options including a five match ticket that comes complete with other benefits.
For the fan in a position to financially do more the revamped Touchdown Club really represents value for money also.
Check out the options at www.leighcenturions.co.uk and click 2014 season ticket details to download the season ticket information sheet.
PS for any business people or anyone with a few quid burning a hole in your pocket the sponsorship deals and options available for 2014 are in my opinion from a sponsers perspective are fantastic and great value so if interested get in touch with Rob Parker for a corporate brochure.
Cheers

| Who knows what the RFL and the SL clubs will do , but the current situations at Bradford and LOndon could make it even harder to sort out what is one big mess.
Personally we have to be ready in case the opportunity comes our way sooner then inticpated IMHO

Depends how you look at it could make it easier to resolve with SL clubs if two go out of business and I'm not convinced Bradford will be the last to come clean.
Your right though Lynda what happens is out of our control so as a club we work hard and build regardless and be ready to do the very best we can and be the best we can whatever the format or structure.
For what it's worth my personal view tips the new structure will be ratified and will happen for the greater good of the game and we as a club are ready for the challenge but need the whole town and community united and behind us.
One thing I can assure Leythers we've never been in a better position to capitalise on changes whatever they may be and never been as well respected at the RFL and have some great dialogue going on behind the scenes.

| You can see with the respective champioship clubs signings for next season it's a massive campaign for all in 2014 & it should be a cracker for the fans the watch. The board have backed OUR club massively with their own time & finances & it's clear to see with the health of OUR club is in now & the squad that's been assembled. Last season we lacked strength in depth, physical size in the forwards & lack of pace in the backs although the latter I don't think we were exploited there as much as we have done in previous seasons. Now we've got a bigger squad, bigger forwards & some pacey backs signed so building on last season things are looking great both on & off field. If you want a successful Leigh Centurions then get behind the team/club & show them the support they deserve as arm chair supporters are not going to help us progress as a club. Something special is happening with OUR club so get behind the team & see us progress together if you don't you may just regret what you've missed.

Please lay off with the cheap shots like that in my direction Demon. You know I have been fully behind the lads having been a ST holder all my adult life. In fact the number of games I have missed in the past decade I can probably count on one hand.
I have already purchased my new shirt and pledged money towards this message boards 2014 player sponsorship so keep your punches up. Support runs far deeper than actually being there in the stadium.
Unfortunately I have ever demanding work and family commitments and given that I am not enjoying half the games as it now stand, it is becoming more difficult to justify it each and every match. A brand new meaningful structure for me is coming in at just about the right time, to give me and others a renewed impetus and increased optimism. It also motivates me to continue to keep justifying it all. It really is down to personal choices I am afraid and not about funding the team.
As an aside after working 6 days solid this week, including an over night stay in Scotland I am just about to take my family out for a nice meal in Southport this afternoon with not seeing much of them recently.
It would not have gone down well to tell my misses I am instead going to Leigh v Hunslet today at the LSV with the lads

It might do if you invite her down to LSV to watch Leigh v Hunslet, as well!

| People have intimated the same as me above but in a slightly subtler way. I am entitled an opinion as are you. Put simply as someone put above, too many armchair fans does not help a club grow. Wasn't a cheap shot just an opinion.
I travel 50 miles each way to work 5 days a week, managed to make a couple of thursday games but not all. I also get a ST because I know at this level despite the relative increase in funds from the board, it is still the likes of me and you to help all we can. Picking and choosing games is not a way to keep a club going, IMO of course.
SRW intimated the same but did try and sell it to you.

When will people realise that all this patronising rubbish does nothing but put people off going back? Seriously it is pathetic.
By the way, on my way back home this afternoon it was nice to see a nice big sign advertising the club on Warrington Road, good work.

| Thankfully this board has a fairly limited Patronage, I know my own posts can and have cause d upset among some more ' focused ' supporters and it is sometimes easy to let emotion get in the way of debate, one thing that should be avoided if at all possible is ' emotional blackmail ' it is very counter productive, you cannot tell anybody what they should or shouldnt ' feel ' , everybodys experience is different, we all value things differently
This season is looking interesting, and it is good to see a declaration of intent with regards ' good ' rugby, hopefully the discussions between the power brokers in the sport will happen soon and a clearer path for the future will be there for all to see
