Tell you what, having spent the past 5 minutes being completely wound up by the SL muppets on the Virtual Terrace, I've come to the conclusion that it makes complete sense to let Super League get on with their own cock ups and hopefully the Championship clubs to work together at a much higher level than previously so that we're best placed to carry on regardless when the house of cards collapses (ask why Super League, the Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge are all without sponsors for next season).

I have worked in Warrington all my working life and have to say, I find it all rather similar to where I live, apart from the fact that Warringtonians seem to think it's a lot better than it is. Obviously, none of the districts has any strong identity so your villages find it easier to identify with a central town club than do Leigh which is a small town with a strong sense of heritage.

I agree that the odds of finding someone wealthy for us are longer by dint of a smaller populace but that is not all.

You do realise that if the guardians of the game were actually capable of expanding the professional game into big cities beyond the M62, as they intended, then Warrington may eventually find their place in the North-West Counties League playing their local derbies against Leigh, Widnes etc?

You said that Matty Blythe had improved beyond the level where he was a strong option for Warrington. I said that he wasnt in Bridge's class and as soon as we had two or even one fit centre on the park he wouldnt get a look in, which is exactly what happened.

FWIW Bridge is probably the best British centre in SL and has many attributes of a world class player but injuries have taken their toll and he lacks the size or pace anymore to be truly world class.

I would agree, however I also believe the current system in place is the ideal solution in todays climate. Its not perfect but not many sports can afford to relegate from the top flight to a completely part time comp. It is still possible regardless of what you claim to find a wealthy backer ala Widnes or Barrow, they just have to be patient and effective as opposed to throwing all their money at a first team.
