I'd say it goes with the territory, to be honest. If you work in retail then there's no such thing as a Bank Holiday.

It used to be that as Boxing Day is a Bank Holiday, then Monday 27th December becomes Boxing Day if Christmas day falls on a Saturday. Sunday 26th December is usually, or used to be, known as Christmas Sunday. Apparently this no longer applies.

| The more Supermarkets we have the better. Having these brand name stores in town attracts other shops to come and people to shop here. Admittedly there may be one or two casualties but there are a few town centre shops I wouldn't miss! And its about time we had a Cinema back in town too.

Not sure how involved the Union's will be willing (or able) to get when the TUC's own website says;
"Contrary to widespread belief, there is no absolute legal right to take bank holidays off. However many people's employers say in their terms and conditions that you do not have to work on bank holidays and get annual leave in addition. This is unlikely to apply however in service occupations such as retail, call centres or public services where the employer's business does not shut"

Slightly off topic but with a full house of supermarkets is it safe to say that the small local food shops in Leigh are a thing of the past ?
