Slice of BUTTERED bread for lobby butties and general bowl-wiping duties. Delicious, AND saves on washing up.
My grandma (who left school at ten and worked at Tunnicliffes Mill before setting up a hairdressers in their front room on Findlay Street) used to butter the loaf then slice the buttered piece off. Genius, IMHO.

My Uncle Bill wouldn't eat anything else on (Echo marge) his bread, when he was in the army they had to get a special load in, good job he was in the catering Corps
