Over 50 years of pain, pleasure, frustration, joy, heartache and ecstasy that supporting Leigh has given me but I would not swop it.: |
|
| I think I might have to pick up those straws from the floor that I had been clutching, you never know we might be saved yet.
I feel sorry for Thunder fans but not as sorry as I do for Leigh and if we can gain from their demise, I'll accept that, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Not looking good for our friends in the North East though.

Having read the statement on the Thunder website, i am not sure how much sympathy I have for them. www.thunderrugby.com/news_article.php?id=253
My understanding is that the part of the salary cap rules are to prevent situations like this---a sole financial source bankrolling a dead duck with an unsustainable stream of players they can't afford.
Our application to SL was refused partly on the issue that Arthur is our main financial contributor and so our long term business plan came under question.
I hope they come back, but we have to have clubs being run responsibily, within thier means.
You have to give due to Steve Garside's commitment, but its a team game off the field too and these problems should have been confronted much earlier.
We should take note of Arthur's plea for the people of Leigh to support the club because the problems of Gateshead are not too far away from us if we are not careful.

| Quote: frankb "Well reading that article if Gateshead are to continue it will be in Championship 1 next season.
Provided that is that the proposed plan is accepted.
Wether we retain our place in the Championship will then be down to Oldhams rather precarious situation. Fwiw I hope both clubs start next season.'"
===============================================
OLDHAM have nowt to do wi it if Gateshead go bang or start up in Div 1
then LEIGH CENTURIONS who lets be honest have,nt played on a level playin field this season re Toulouse n Gatesyed plus other teams ie Barrow seemingly allowed to sign who they want and stuff the salary cap..
then LEIGH should be renstated asap to Championship rugby with a apology from the barnyeds at GESTAPO ( RL ) HEADQUARTERS

| and while we are it we should ask for a ten point start as additional compensation for disrupting our recruitment plans - we could have had Cunningham!

The point is however if both clubs don,t start next season then a 9 club Champ 1 would not be viable.

Yesterdays statement
www.thunderrugby.com/news_article.php?id=254
Pledge Meeting? You mean generation of fictitious and ultimately non existent funds to impress the RFL who don't know a falsehood if it smacked them in the face. Rod Findlay mentions RFL central funds and stresses that they are available to all clubs. Does that mean they are available to all clubs who are in trouble or available to any club with an ex(?) RFL employee as Chief Executive.
How can the RFL decide the makeup of the league/leagues if they have not approved the business plan yet. Looks like that won't happen for at least 2/3 weeks.
The RFL must make a decsion now for the sake of Gateshead and any other clubs this decsion may affect.

Are you suggesting he may have some insider knowledge or, unfair advantage!

| Like he said you don't need to be a rocket scientist I suppose there is always a possibility that the RFL might make a decision that is good for the game rather than the usual decision that smacks of self interest ie jobs for the boys.
I don't think I could claim to like the RFL loons in any way shape or form.
