Yesterday was only half the job done. We need to go to Gateshead and treat it like a massive one off relegation battle, get the job done, have a few pints on the way home then play our last 2 home games with zero pressure and fast open rugby.

Staying up

2 weeks ago I said we wouldn't win another game and would struggle for a bonus point.
So whats happened since then..........

The club and its sponsors created a lot of 'feel good' factor in the midst of a relegation battle by putting on free coaches for Gateshead, the Leigh fans reacted and indirectly the club have perhaps started the first bits of a return to the family / community club it once was.
The free buses got people talking about the positives from Leigh Centurions rather than the negatives.
The ideally timed rumour of another new signing kept that positivity going all week and I think most people by Friday PM couldn't wait for Saturdays game
The lads had a week off after 2 very poor performances, some serious coaching / building up must have gone on as the turnaround in fortunes was massive against a far better team than Doncaster (no disrespect to Donnys team of battlers).
Then the main thing, we (fans) actually supported the team from begining to end -even when there was the odd mistake / misplaced pass / dropped ball (which wasn't much in fairness), the players played with a confidence rarely seen all season and played some good stuff to win the match.

If all those factors carry on for the remaining fixtures (and after a good win I see no reason why not - after all we are now taking a far bigger away support to Gateshead than any on here would have thought possible 2 weeks ago) then yes we will stay up without any doubt.

Dunno about the 'indirectly' bit there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes and club members have been battling long and hard with the LSV management and are finally making inroads into what has up to now been an unresponsive LSV management to making the LSV a friendly and exciting place to be (the wins do help as well of course).

All major management is from across the Pennines, Financial bloke is from Blackpool, safety officer is an ex Leigh chief copper but isn't local.
They have just taken on a 'lass' from Yorky (barnsley I think) who can't drive and comes by train then bus, she's keen it takes her 4 hrs just to get here

The win v Doncaster felt like a 40 point drubbing such was the circumstances and thats what rattled so many of us (although I wasn't aware anyone at the club copped abuse for it).
However chip paper news now, the club must keep moving forward and not think we are safe until mathematically proven - lets not forget just avoiding relegation whilst being fantastic news now will still see this season go down as our worst for a number of years, like you say though - now could be a good time to rebuild up and move forward.

Probably a bad choice of word, I think the club had lost its way though in terms of fan / club relationships, a succession of own goals/ missed opportunitys IMO which are slowly being rectified.

The dealings of the LSV managment is something you'll know better than most , lets hope they realise that Leigh are one of there main 'customers' and like any customer service industry it pays to keep them happy.
