| Barring Batley getting a real upset somewhere, I think we need 4 more points to be safe.
I reckon:
Batley 27
Leigh 29
Gatedhead 29

I'll look out for you scoring a try next week, not missing tackles or dropping balls. Only the team can do something about it in reality....yes thats what this is, reality.

43504.jpg Rugby League is folklore. What captures our imagination is not simply the winning or the losing, it's the stories. The stories of perseverance, of sheer will, of hard work, of heartbreak, of miracles, and of triumph and tragedy.:43504.jpg |

I really didnt think I would have to explain this but...when i say we, i mean the club, the players, the fans...I would have thought that was obvious...even to you. As for saying that only the team can do something about it, dont the fans have a part to play? Or should we all sit here and be quiet and miserable? The reality is that we ALL need to get behind the players, not get on their backs, and then expect them to go out there and give their all, would you? I dont think you would. I look forward to hearing you get behind the side next week. Again, if you dont have anything positive to say, you know what the alternative is.

| You don't have to explain. I can say come on Leigh with the best of you, cause you are better than me. I can also be realistic, Fax scored 36 points and lost today. We haven't scored more than 32 in a game all season and that wasn't even against Doncaster.
Looking at the way you are speaking to me, if we god forbid do go down, I am sure you will be ready to blame it on the pessimists, rather than rank bad club management, rank bad recruitment, oh and a rank bad team.....good players but not a team

Im no better than anyone else, neither am i any worse, and Im well aware of the shortcomings of the team, as, im sure they are, but that doesnt mean i have to be pessimistiic, I can be hopeful about things. All im saying is that we should be supporting the side, not writing them off.
I know that we havent scored more than 32 points in a league game this season, I also know that with this weekends results, we are in a better position than either Batley or Gateshead.

If the fact we have a game in hand puts us in a better position then fine. However with the teams we have left to play I am not sure you can say we are in a better position. Has anyone looked at our previous games against Fax/Toulouse and Haven this year, and then remember we are not the same team as earlier in the season

| If we do stop up can we adopt the Great Escape as our main fan's chant?
I'm sure ther are probably 1300 Leythers out there who know exactly where it went wrong this season.
Recruitment was poor, pre-season perhaps not the best, the lack of a dedicated gym... some see these as excuses, but being realistic you can't expect to improve enough over the course of a season. When other teams are able to do that and overall our budget for the season was largely spent and pinned on the faint hopes of 2 Aussie halfbacks who the closest they probably got to the town was this messageboard.
I do believe with those same Leythers backing the team it will make for an interesting end to the season.
Not one fan is more important than another and never has been, we all have a part to play, always have. That teamwork - backing in unison this bunch of players may save us, it may not, but lets enjoy the ride and build for next year.

Well said. It's no use booing and making our already fragile confidence even worse, lets rally as a team, a set of fans and give them that extra lift. It certainly worked for the W***n when they was in a dog fight so lets get the team through this one.

1030.gif [quote="littlerich":1czuya0c]Widnes will be glad to get away from Leigh. They've been regularly pumped, roasted and left in the alley-way by the lobbygobblers. Talk about being bitched - what a torrid time they've had. They'll be looking for some A&E rest time for the next three years at least.[/quote:1czuya0c]:1030.gif |

| Current Tableshockingly bad at times, but we're unlucky that our bad year has coincided with the most competitive league in a long time. I think this could be a wake up call for all teams in the future, that no team is safe in this league. Poor off-season recruitment, a bad choice of coach or even an alarming injury crisis could send a team down.
Remaining FixturesBold - Win
Red - Bonus Point
Barrow v Widnes
Sheffield v Halifax
Leigh v Toulouse
Doncaster v Featherstone
Whitehaven v Batley
Leigh v Halifax
Toulouse v Doncaster
Widnes v Whitehaven
Batley v Halifax
Featherstone v Barrow
Gateshead v Leigh
Sheffield v Featherstone
Barrow v Gateshead
Halifax v Toulouse
Doncaster v Gateshead
Featherstone v Batley
Leigh v Whitehaven
Sheffield v Barrow
I think Batley could beat Halifax at home, especially as 'Fax play us during the week before, although Halifax are chasing top spot and they might do us a favour. I can't see them winning at 'Haven (although anything is possible in this division) but they may be able to pick up at least a bonus point at Fev.
I've presumed Gateshead will beat Doncaster but I can't see them getting much from a trip to Barrow.
I haven't predicted Leigh's results for obvious reasons.
Which leaves the table as this:
Barrow 46
Featherstone 43
Halifax 41* + game vs Leigh
Widnes 40
Whitehaven 40* + game vs Leigh
Sheffield 40
Toulouse 30* + game vs Leigh
Batley 28
Gateshead 26* + game vs Leigh
Leigh 24* + 4 games
Doncaster 8
If Gateshead beat us at the Thunderdome (which I think they will), that leaves us needing 5 points from our 3 games against Halifax, Toulouse and Whitehaven. We're basically looking at two wins to stay up!
With Toulouse, it's impossible to predict which team will turn up. They seem to turn up one week and vanish the next, which doesn't bode well considering Gateshead thumped them last night . I certainly think we're capable of winning this one provided the team show some fight, similar to the games against Sheffield and Widnes.
Then we have Halifax at home in a midweek game. Obviously Halifax chasing top spot doesn't do us any favours and on paper this should be no contest. But 'Fax have been abit wobbly of late and with it being a midweek game, Leigh have to be looking to take something from this game.
Next up is Gateshead and I can't see a Leigh win here for the life of me. They've hit form impressively over the last couple of months and they look like a far more capable team than we do. Time may run out for Gateshead yet, as they left temselves with an awful lot to do, but they're, currently, a much better team than we are, and I don't think the midweek game against Halifax will do us any favours. Obviously, if I'm wrong about this one then that would make life a hell of a lot easier for ourselves.
Finally it's the Whitehaven game. Again 'Haven could yet be chasing top spot which wouldn't do us any favours but we have already beaten them at home this season, so it's possible that we could do it again. If the lads need any belief going into this game, then surely the coaching staff can point to that?
Can we do it? Well it doesn't look good, but as I said earlier, anything seems to be possible in this league. If we see the same shower that we saw at Barrow, Toulouse, and at home to Gateshead then we're screwed! If the players' heads have gone now then we're in deep trouble.
However, I still think that there could be another big performance left in the team yet. The team that got embarrassed by Barrow, Toulouse, Halifax and Gateshead is still the same team that's beaten Widnes, Sheffield, Whitehaven and could so easily have taken something from a number of other games. I think there's still reason to remain positive and get behind the lads from now to the end of the season. Everything is still to play for.
