I bet they're fancying their chances against Hull though. Come to think of it, Bradford and 'Fax must be fancying their chances too at the moment

| You can play entertaining rugby, without being reckless, or lacking composure when you're in a good position. I think when people refer to "dumb rugby", it's not saying we should play 5 drives and a kick, but more play to match situation. Haven't seen the video yet, but watching game live it felt like they were paying a lot of attention to defending out wide which meant Kay & Armstrong rarely got any space so passing needed to be perfect to come off. Meanwhile the forwards were punching holes and marching forward in every tackle.
Once we complete a few sets on the trot, we get on top of teams and give the backs the space to throw it about. Fev away was a great example.

They are! Fans seem very buoyant and are looking forward to it.
I'll still go with Hull though.

| Leythig i get what your saying and agree, Sheffield did their homework on us and stifled our attack from the flanks which you don't find out until you try it. I just watched the highlights on LCTV and i think our trys were mostly closer to the sticks than in previous games. I also feel we are confident of still being fresher towards the end of the game than the opposition are , but all things being equal that shouldn't be the case against SL opposition so deffo could go down to the wire, it should be a stormer of a game .

| Great record indeed and some fantastic rugby.
It's just a shame that the opposition isn't that great most weeks.

Don't get me wrong, this is the best Leigh team I've seen and they play some fantastic stuff. But this thread is about a single performance, and the coach himself described it as dumbest they've played all season. And it looked to me like if we'd been a bit more patient yesterday, we would've won comfortably. (Or at least as comfortably as the final score suggested!)

I agree.
Of course we [iall[/i want to see entertaining and open rugby. But sometimes, especially when the opposition are decent, you have to pick your moments better.
I'd just like us to have and show the ability to stifle/suffocate opponents with tactics, as well as blow them away with the skill we already know our team has.

| It's not a choice between 5 drives & a kick to touch OR offloading every single tackle though, there's a balance to be struck. We have been guilty of trying passes that were never on which has cost us ball & better teams will punish us for that; doesn't mean we should stop playing like we do, just a bit more care would make us even better than we are. Sheffield showed yesterday how keeping play down by your opponents' try line & forcing repeat sets can get results, something we perhaps don't do as much as we could. I've no doubt Rowley has his tactics all worked out for The Salford game & I'm sure they'll be spot on, we'll still play fast, flair attacking rugby which has been so successful but hope we don't loose as much ball as we have been doing.

| Yep, Lowton.
On another note, the travelling Leythers were in fine voice. We got behind the team and you can see that the players really appreciate the following and support.
I really enjoyed the evening.

Yes, we should play smart, but IMHO this team & Rowley didn't get this good by only doing it ugly.
What's more, I think part of the increase in our attendances is down to attractive, attacking rugby & not just being the most dominant team in the Championship.

Fax especially, I reckon that is the most likely Giant killing of this CC round.
Wakey are a nervous wreck & ripe for the picking.

I think so too Ste. In fact, you could argue a case for all four Championship teams beating their SL opponents. Although, in my opinion, we have the toughest of those four ties.

Absolutely Ste - we didn't give Leeds the fright of their lives by just trying to contain them. Against SL opposition, all this does is restrict the margin of defeat. The brand of rugby that Paul Rowley has brought to the club is wonderful to watch but is bound to be a bit frustrating at some point during a game as it is impossible to deliver off every offload.
At Championship level we are making a clear statement to the opposition every week 'If you want to beat us you will need to score at least 30 points'. If you can't do that then there is only going to be one outcome.
Much has been said about the offensive qualities of the team and how we play with great flair. I haven't studied the stats but it feels to me that defensively we are making excellent progress also.
