Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

I think we have cross wires on this one.
Quote: Starbug "I an not trying to be clever or be my usual critic of all things RFL but this is what they stipulate to all clubs not just ours
I have spoken to others about it
Simple question.....will this position benefit the club ?
Its just a question of how much - which time will tell.

As I said though , I seriously doubt anybody will take up the position for any sensible length of time because the money is tied into producing results , and getting those results will be virtually impossible
The original poster was asking what had happened and what was the person achieving
The answer is no and nothing at the moment

| So the RFL want to see an improvement on the current situation. Does bringing in player sponsorship count? If so it shouldn't be too hard to show an improvement when you can currently open up their very own "game on" magazine at the Leigh match page and look at our list of player sponsors, then flick through all the other games in our division and not find any other clubs with less sponsored players.
At this stage in the season nobody in their right mind will be phoning up to sponsor a player at the full season rate so anything we bring in now is a bonus, and the main hope would be that if you bring in sponsors now and treat them right you might get to keep a few on for next season as well.
IMHO first we should be offering packages pro-rata to cover the remaining games & throw in a couple of appropriate incentives (tickets, meals etc) if necessary. And if that doesn't get them in, contact all our existing and former sponsors, together with small local businesses that might not normally be able to afford full season-long sponsorship, and sell the sponsorship like a raffle. Every business pays £100 and gets a few program ads guaranteed. But a chosen few (ie however many are left unsponsored) will be selected for free player sponsorship for the remaining games. Let's face it, if we make even just a few £100's would be better than receiving nothing and letting the sponsorships sit empty for the rest of the season.

Black Backgrounds/Gonzo the Great.gif you may think I'm an idiot, but it's nice to know I've been judged by my peers.:Black Backgrounds/Gonzo the Great.gif |

| put it this way businesses are getting phone calls and e mails and post from Dave and Annette offering deals all the time, but as at most small to medium businesses times are hard at the moment and certainly my 'corporate and sponsorship' drawer has to remain closed for the forseeable future

Understandaly so, and I'm glad to hear the club are still working on this side of the business, it just depresses me when I see the number of gaps in our sponsorship column of the program. I appreciate Dave & Annette will also have many other jobs to do at the club as well, so don't think I'm having a go at them specifically, it's more an example of something that someone in a "new position" funded by the RFL could maybe assist with.
The point I was trying to make is that with a RFL-funded "new person" on board it shouldn't be too difficult to find a metric through which we could demonstrate "improvement" to the RFL to justify the new position they would be funding.

| Sack Dave Bradshaw, interview him for the new position, give him the job and we get Dave Bradshaw paid by the RFL. Simples!

| In this day & age of high unemployment surely a marketing person is available somewhere - the salary wasn't peanuts was it?
I know times are hard for businesses but I doubt e'mails / phone calls will ever get much response even in good times. How many of the e'mails will get dumped to the recycle bin without even being opened?

| I dont know why but as soon as anybody mentions ' marketing ' everybody instantly thinks ' sponsorship or Corporate ' support
Many of the previous posts on this thread confirm this idea
Sorry but we need more ' walk through the turnstyle ' supporters not another couple of tables in the ' big room ' or extra adverts in the programme
We already have enough people trying their hardest to pull this type of ' support ' in
We have a 12,000 capacity stadium that needs at least 4,000 people in it to generate an atmosphere
That is what we as a club need

Agree 100% but I don't see anything being done to achieve that
In fact it's quite the opposite as the main reason for going is a complete shambles. Must admit on Sunday the things going on in & around the ground added a little proffessionalism to the event - pity the team/coach cannot reach the level expected of them.
