| Judging by his 14 posts, Valvehunter is rather enjoying the predicament that Leigh Centurions find themselves in right now. IF we go on a 'winning run' and with no 'unfounded rumours' flying about, I doubt he'll be posting on here very much.

| Well, I was stood right at the back of the stand and definitely saw the incident. Anderson gave the V sign to our supporters at the front. I was obviously too far back to hear what he said so I can't comment on that.

| Finding it difficult to understand what all the fuss is about. When Bongser was a lad, Bolton had a forward by the name of Neil Whatmore. He was in a barren run and, upon the Lever End howling their derision at his latest side-netting effort, openly gave the vees to his tormentors and the worst that happened was the The (late lamented) Buff (Bolton's equivalent to the M.E.N. Pink Final) remarked that "Whatmore made angry signs to the crowd". End of subject.
Another time at Burnden Park, the Lever End spent the entire second half chanting that Peter Mellor (the Fulham goalie) was a er. At the end of the match (the only one that ever saw Bobby Moore being sent off), Mellor gave the same "angry signs" to the crowd and there was no media reaction anywhere. Nor was there any when, as a curtain raiser to the '96 Pool vs Utd Cup Final (best part of a 100,000 there and millions watching on tele), Tommy Smith gave the Harvey's to Stepney after beating him with a penalty. Fair enough, there was a tad of a to do about the other Smith, but that was in the somewhat more genteel world of showjumping.
The difference? Mass media, the worst social outlet being Facebook. Think it was Heseltine during the Westlands scandal in the 80s, that said, "There is nothing more childish than an outraged British public".
On another note has the driver that was using his mobile to film Carragher been arrested for driving without due care and attention? For Bongser that is the most serious offence in all this as it could endanger people. The rest is trifling.

Yo Mo, didn't realise that you were a Trotter. It would seem that we have strayed somewhat off topic but will add one thought.
When working down South, travelled up especially to watch the final game at Burnden. Only got Embankment tickets. Stood with Ol' Pa Bongser, Bro & Coz as usual. 4-1 win, McGinlay last two goals. Good do, bad view. Normid plus a floodlight pylon and pi$h running down the terraces from the top due to the lack of any facilities. Still there was a tear in the e'e of OPB. It was the next day before dimwit here understood as, back in London he read a short article in the sports pages of The Grauniad where a Wanderer posted that he had had his lad beside him but not his late dad.
The move from Hilton Park to LSV was just as necessary and beneficial but again dropped a lot of memories under the table.
To Mr Burns (and all his alter ego amigos), Manchester Road was not an END at Burnden but a side stand with paddock and it was not The Pink but The Buff that rolled off the presses in a van outside the ground (though it's hard to make out in the Lowry painting
BTW the Saturday football final in Norwich was called "The Green 'Un". Just thought everyone should know.

| Only been to 1 soccer match (one too many for me) but it was at Burnden 1963 vs Burnley. 1-0 for someone. One of most memorable days of my life though cos when I got home it was episode 1 of Dr Who.

I think the club recovered well in the coming years.
Anyway, back to Leigh topics. Sorry people.
