In a shocking twist, the head coach, who has taken the club to the top of the Championship in his tenure, revealed his resignation in a short statement to TotalRL journalists.
“It is with a heavy heart I have decided to resign of coach of Leigh Centurions,” he said.
“My reasons for leaving are personal and I will not comment further in public or in private.
“I thank the players for everything they have given me and the club. My only regret is that I will not be there this year to lead them once more.
“I thank my friends and my family for their support in my decision.
“I love Leigh, my club, and I thank all the supporters for their support for me as a player and more recently for their support in my journey as coach.”
A huge loss to our club as Paul is Leigh through and through and its been clear since day 1 the players love playing for him and his coaching staff with the style of RL he plays, to replace that and get a coach in who doesn't subscribe to the borefest 5 drives play it safe and a kick to 'win' matches instead of Pauls 'bums on seats' exciting left to right and chance it RL will be hard if not neigh on impossible at this short notice so a massive void to fill.
Unlike many I actually hope for Paul and his family that he has had a major falling out with someone at the club as like I mentioned above Paul is a true Leyther so there is no way he would walk away from something he loves so much unless it involved something he loves even more which is his family so I do hope all is ok on that score.
Thanks for all the memories as a player and a Coach Paul, its been a pleasure seeing you grow up from child to adult at Leigh and provide myself and my family with some of our happiest memories whilst watching Leigh.

Paul Rowley does not leave Leigh without thinking long and hard.
We need to respect his decision. He has alluded to personal reasons and we need to respect that.
I would like to thank him personally for allowing me over the past 2 or 3 years to watch the most exciting and exhilarating rugby league as I have ever seen in my time. And I am an old man.
Thank you Sir.

We need a coach who knows how to play the basics, rather than throwing the ball around on the 1st tackle
