1392.gif Mines a pint...
'Hi-Ho Silver Lining'

| Slight concern is nothing has been learned from last weeks poor first 60mins v Haven.
Plus point is we are not hitting the straps yet getting victories.
Higham is a huge loss and injuries with an (increasingly) ageing squad is inevitable but at some point we need to get our strongest fully fit pumped up squad on the field and give it the full 80mins as at times it looked like the lads didn't know the moves that was being put on, Fev though played the best I'd seen v Leigh for a long time and on another day would have come away with a win.
Kay and Higson (seemed to get injured in the warm up) both had to take the ball in far too often but that was a busted team and as someone mentioned playing without a hooker for a large part of the game so I'll take the points especially as we didn't have the ball as much as we'd like and the PTB was slow all game but and I'd hope we have improvement to come.
Still top and hopefully with the remaining games will provide the intensity we need (as today did)to prepare for what will be an incredibly difficult 8's.

| We will soon be battling against the clock, (calendar?) to get a settled team before the Qualifiers. We had two half backs who haven't had time to get to know their team mates, and the hope is that they do get to know them in the next few weeks. Also, loanee forwards maybe saving the legs and bodies of our regular pack but, once again their selection inevitably leads to a lack of understanding on the pitch.
I don't know what the situation actually is with Ridyard, but we are certainly missing him, big time at the moment. I'm sure he would have been able to spark some better attacking play from us.
The adage that "we played badly but still won" is one that we won't be able to repeat in the Qualifiers!

| Well our half backs were poor today. Losing Hood and Hopkins did not help.
Our defence was good apart from the Fev try from acting half back just before half time and the last minute.
Thought Reynolds played well at hooker.
Our attack wasn't good but if half backs don't play well it has an impact.
Ref had a bad game but so do players.

| Any coach worth his salt will be all to aware that the starting half backs next week must be Ridyard and Drinkwater.

| Fully agreed Harold, not judging Travis Burns after 1 home game, but Riddy would be my starting half back for every match.....end of. We have only lost 2 games in all competitions by 2 points in each encounter, BUT something is not right. Too many loanee's in/out, why can't we just 'make do' with what we already have. TEAM SPIRIT is a big plus, at the moment, BUT there are so many new players, it must be affecting it. If Martyn does not start v Workington, I will seriously wonder if Jukes knows what he is doing. RANT OVER.

Agreed, Last season ‘the team’ was better than its individual parts, this season we are the opposite, we have individuals many of whom could still hold their own in SL but yet as a team we are failing miserably to perform, we seem to have lost the Leythers against the world attitude which galvanised the team, the fans and the club.
Come on Jukesy sort it out.

| We have the forwards and the Halves, we didn't need Travis burns we needed a pacey support player ( like Brierley ). Yesterday was sideways rugby and Fev defended it with ease

| Leythers, your disappointed with your teams performance because you were expecting a walkover. Fev stood up,
showed some idea and creativity and had a dig. For full timers you looked disorganised and sluggish.
Your missing the Ridyard,Brierley, MacNally combo of cutting through teams with speed.
Do you fear Beaumont is dictating to Jukes who you sign. Rowley seemed to be building nicely.

953.jpg 2015 - major missed opportunity, 2016 - stronger teams = harder task (no problem there then), 2017 - OMG What now!!!:953.jpg |

| We have a different coach, with different ideas and his own views on what he wants. Will it be working well enough for the 8s? He has 6 weeks left. Let's not forget while we had a great run of scintillating rugby and high scoring games we game up massively short when tested at SL level and the then coach was unable to lift the team for the last 6 and a half games of the 8s ie everyone who we had already beaten that year beat us with ease (except eagles). I am happy to accept this at the moment if it is a means to an end. Sentiment is not needed, after all it looks like Pownall, Beswick and Kay are off to Toronto and Ridy may not be far behind. I would like to think they would still give their all for the club if required but the coach has the final word. Listen to his interview on LCTV post Fev.

| I did appreciate the entertaining sometimes scintillating rugby or Rowley's reign. Cheers.

We are disappointed with our performance because our performance was extremely disappointing.
We gave up so much ball and position through soft penalties and constant errors that we were forced to defend our line for huge chunks of the match. Luckily the defence was pretty good as any team that has as many sets on our line as Fev did has no excuse for not winning that match.
Yesterday was as bad as we have played in a long time so to still come away with the 2 points is pleasing... and a bit of a relief!

And what would any coach worth their salt have said after the whitehaven game? Or are we going to change the halves every week?

Healthy competition is great, when you have it in abundance you simply have to perform to keep the shirt. Burns did enough at Whitehaven to warrant his place yesterday granted, the question for the coach worth his salt is did Burns do enough to keep hold of it for another week?
Ridyard was in fine form prior to being 'dropped' - Does he deserve a chance again?
It is probably irrelevant as we know the answer.

i don't think it's something that should be reviewed on a match by match basis, the coach needs to decide what his best half back pairing will be and stick to it. In my opinion Drinkwater would be first choice, with little to choose between the other 3.

| Have to feel a bit disappointed with that performance however there are positives to take out of it when you think about it. Last week at Whitehaven our defence was woeful, a side even slightly better could have scored at least 4 more trys than Haven the gaps we had in our line. After that game I can understand if Jukes spent all last week focused on a solid defence & that's what we had. Defence has been our weakness this season but yesterday we defended solidly against a Fev side with a lot of go forward. Fortunately Fev didn't seem to have much to offer in attack once they got within 10 m as we are very bad at defending that & conceded yet another try from dummy half 5 m out and even more annoyingly conceded a try after we'd eased off thinking the game was won, which we really need to stop doing. Our attacking play was poor though, however with key players going off injured it's understandable why instead we'd opt to shore it up defensively and not try anything too flamboyant & that worked. Hopefully next week we'll see some good attacking play back again which we have been improving the last few weeks & combine it with the defence we showed yesterday. We're not there yet & time is running out but we've seen we can do it when we have to.
