I think my 2nd to last post was the only one that mentioned an ilegal approach and was very much tongue in cheek. The fact is that Sam has a year left on his contract at Fax. I very much doubt that Fax would just let him walk away from that contract and would look to be compensated in some way, be that money or player swap, for the last year of a very hefty contract.

I wonder how many weeks he will go at Leigh before his agent starts banding around that a SL team have come in for him and he wants more money.

He was very poor that day, I remember that. We just got back in the game and he tried passing out of a 4 man tackle about 10 out from our own sticks.

Thats not for me to say is it? I expect you will be waiting a while for an apology from the trade papers though. That is unless they are way off the mark too.

Its been reported in numerous places and by numerous people that Barlow has signed a deal with Leigh for next season. I guess from what you have said Leigh are denying that, so lets wait and see, maybe the people saying it are wrong.

As regards an illegal approach there is no way I can see that being the case, everybody knew that Sam was signed up at Fax for next year.

If he has penned a 2 year deal starting next season for Leigh then all parties must have been involved in the process whatever that involves.

If it turns out to be cobblers it's kept us occupied for a short while and we will survive the experience.

A few seasons back a work mate of mine said to me "I see it says in the Daily Mirror your nephew is going out on a months loan to Aberdeen"

I replied "No he's going to Oldham 'til the end of the season"

Of course he was right because he'd read it in a national newspaper, that weekend he scored an 87th minute penalty for Oldham it was the first goal at Boundary Park for about seven games.

Newspapers are worse than message boards for rumours.

who wrote the 'article'? Nosey Parker cause we all know he gets everything right .............

I remember the hubby ringing him to retract a story about a member of our staff that he wrote that was totally wrong and made up. They put a small retraction in the foliowing week but it didn't compensate the distress the story caused.
Sometimes the press get it wrong sometimes they are right . In this case if they've got itbwrong, bet we don't see an apology , if he does eventually song for us, they'll just say they were right , if he doesn't they'll say he changed his mind !
No doubt we'd be interested if available though.

In what legal sense is talking to someone, contract or not, illegal? Which law is being broken?

Most of these so called laws in sport are gentlemens agreements, not actual law. Like the Bosman ruling in football, most of these things are a court case away from being proven to be the opposite, e.g. preventing someone talking to someone else about new employment is actually illegal, not the other way around!

Rules of Sporting Organisations are made by members of that sporting body not by Common Law.

Should a member of a sporting body break a particular rule it would be dealt with by that sporting body and would be nothing to do with statute.
