QuoteDick Jones="Dick Jones"How can we sign someone, give him a contract and squad number then play him about 30 minutes gametime in a couple of friendlies and then decide hes not good enough, wouldnt the contract money have been better spent elsewhere, ditto with Cooky too. If this is correct
Sorry but it seems a case of face doesnt fit here.

Who’s said he’s not good enough?
As a youngster didn’t David Beckham go out on loan to Preston? I wonder if it was because Fergy didn’t rate him, Beck’s seemed to do ok on his return to United.
It happens Hatton was not getting a chance to play possibly not because of what he’s done wrong but more to do with the lads who have been picked have done well and currently in NK view deserve the shirt, and an extended run in the team.
Who would you suggest we drop to allow Hatton to play?
Some players will benefit by playing in the reserves and some will benefit by going out on loan. Which could be at a higher level than reserve rugby, isn’t Scott Moore still a Saints player but still playing SL at Huddersfield, or do you think he would be better playing for Saints reserves, it’s up to the player and coach to agree which route they feel is best for both parties.
QuoteDick Jones="Dick Jones"So why give him a contract then in the first place?'"
Maybe he wasn't considered ready yet but was signed in the hope of him getting there. Same as with any new young player. If we only sign players who are 100% ready for the 1st team we'll be back to the days of has-beens and overpaid journeymen.
Along with coaching players need gametime so personally I'd like to see us use the loan system a lot more to get our younger players experience, like some of the SL clubs do.

Because you need a squad of players in case you pick up key injuries. Neil obviously think he has better options in the positions Dean plays but wants him in case we get in trouble.
His outings at Blackpool can only make him a better player and he'll benefit greatly rather than just turning out in our reserve grade every week. He's playing in games that will test him far better which will serve as an indicator as how he'll go when he does get game time.

Agree entirely, the loan to Blackpool will benefit Blackpool, Leigh and above all....Dean. As a 21yr old its all about establishing yourself and seeking that all important "first team" shirt, Blackpool are giving Dean this opportunity, however its still upto Dean to take it with both hands.
