Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Quote: TV BOY "Pigeons are rats with wings and are allowed to be shot with the biggest gun you can hold. If you could hold a gattling gun you could use it but I don't think the LSV would be too happy with the damage. So you use a 1.77 air rifle with point nose slugs. The hawk thing was used so that it would scare the vermin away on match days. They usually use Harris hawks because they are the Mike Tyson or Jet Lee of hawks. Personally I would wait for them to roost turn off the lights and use the air rifle and an infra red beam. Or better still we could raise money buy having a pigeon shoot and sell a beat to the hunting lords of Leigh. Useless to eat these birds as they carry all sorts of eye deforming and internal organ damaging diseases. What is good fun is when they are flocking shoot at them with a shot gun with a wide spread shell and see how many you can drop with one shot. Which reminds me must renew my animal rights subscription.'"
I was thinking exactly the same thing Tony , whats more ' humane ' , having a hawk rip them to bits , or a quick pellet through the brain ?

| Thing is the hawk would catch one eat it and rest untill it gets hungry. It wont have chicks this time of year so will only hunt for it's self. It's quite amusing to watch when I have been rigging at Cardiff and they let the hawks go, the pigeons and seaguls scarper.

| Well I thought they had incredibly small brains so you would have to be a good shot.
I notice though no one has mentioned fire arms certificates' or that Jonny has not done a poll.
Looking more and more likely my explanation was right in the first place.

I still think yours is the more likely Frank.

That is no way to treat Wigan fans, it is only a Friendly and we get the full gate money.

| Grass requires light to manufacture food by the process of photosynthesis. Maybe the floodlights were kept on to increase the rate of photosynthesis so that more food could be made by the grass to make it grow quicker. This would help the pitch to recover from the wear and tear received on a match day.

You get the prize - who could argue with a scientifically correct answer?

Yes, but the grass still grows naturally.

| It is a kinky sex thing we all know.
Wouldn't be surprised though if someone posted it was a badger hunt and had something to do with cattle tubercolosis.
After all it is well known ungulates are allowed to graze at the LSV at night.
We need to know and Jonny not doing a poll shows the real reason.

I really would have liked to believe your explanation Frank, but you couldn't/weren't willing to give it credibilty by admitting you were there. Therefore, I have had to go with the explanation that baffled me with science - I'm afraid your use of big words, like 'ungulate' came just to late to sway the decision in your favour! (anyway, wouldn't the hooves damage the pitch? )

| Well I am a bit of a Sherlock Holmes type on this.
When you are presented with a number of theories why such and such happened always pick the obvious or most likely.
It is usually the right one.
