Maybe when discipline becomes unacceptable, or when a series of Qualifier games is bottled?

| Just been reading an interview with Perez in the Sun. He says he doesn't care about whinges that players can't get time off for their away games in Toronto and that it says more about them than him. He also states that if players can't get the time off for travelling out Thursday and returning Sunday then you have to question if these clubs are sustainable. I also predict that he will not pay for everything in 2018 as he has promised to do in 2017.

| He has a point D, if you cant book 2/3 days off work for an all expenses paid trip to Toronto with months notice then somethings not right. Will be a great incentive for the lads who get to go

I think the answer to that is if RL in Canada was sustainable then he wouldn't need to join the Championship, so live with the concessions you've already been given like altering the schedule.
To question the commitment of semi-pro sportsmen that hold down other jobs is not on.

I don't think he is questioning them! He's talking in context with expanding the game, making it bigger than the NRL.
And basically players and clubs need to get onboard with the concept if it is to happen and not whinge about having to take days off.Well that's the way I read it.

I see what you mean. Could become mates with Marian by the sound of him.
It'sgrat for him to be ambitious. Not sure about his comments about whinging though.

| Can't see him becoming mates with DB though He has initially come across to me as being like Uncle Marwan when he first became involved ie coming from an environment where money allowed you to do and say anything that you wanted. Tell me.....if the RFL ever have an issue with the man/club and have to punish them for something or other, will he withdraw his offer to pay for all clubs travel and accommodation mid season and if he does what happens then. I hope the RFL are not living in fear of the chaos that this man could cause.

Good point that D. Perez will want the money to do the talking, and the rfl will not want the boat rocked. The problems could start when they can't find a compromise.

| Just like the RFL have backed themselves into a corner with SKY, this is similar, if Perez won't pay as promised, who does. I certainly wouldn't be happy with the RFL shelling out for travel and accommodation for 25 people for 3 nights in Canada. Having said that what they would probably do is deduct it from the clubs funding from the RFL.

| Perez for me is the spokesman,Argyle the backer. Different scenario to Marwan. He only has Big Nige to contend with (of which I dont think is such an inharmonious relationship people make out to be) so he makes out.
Perez on the other hand has people above him who he answers too. They are self funding the concept and can pull the plug at any point.I dont for one minute believe League 1 was ever part of the business plan and that will add additional expense to their plan.
As it stands, the plan is progressing although it's already faultered.2018 will be the interesting one.

| Perez is talking nonsense about the duration of flights from Toronto to the UK. I have been flying back and forth for 18 years and it has NEVER been 5.5 hours. Its usually 6.5 one way and 7.5 the other (because of tailwinds). Even if you accept 5.5 hours, he's not adding on the massive amount of time you have to add on the extra time of getting on and off the plane, check-in, security and all the rest of it, not to mention the real possibility of flight delays.
Where I do agree with him is the amateur nature of the opposition they will be facing. It's not their (the clubs) fault but highlights the folly of putting a full-time team in Champ 1. People ask why they have to hire such a strong squad this season, but imagine the difficulty of hiring journeymen players for just one season, then get rid of them all when (if) you get promoted. You'd effectively be starting all over again, even if you could hire the team in the first place.
I think also part of it is "well, if you won't let us in higher up, we'll just make a mockery of the competition in this first season" and a bit of two fingers going on. To me, if they were going to back this Toronto project at all, it should have been with both barrels - get them in the Championship from day one. As usual, the RFL have wimped out and compromised.

I actually think starting at league 1 will be a benefit long term to them. Like you say, hopefully Perez doesn't plan anything based on a 5.5 hour flight, because he's in for a shock. The time difference isn't insignificant either (I was always particularly knackered after flying home from Canada, so how will they be feeling for every away game). Think they'll learn a lot of lessons about what's involved with being a transatlantic team without a detriment to on field results, which could be off putting to fans in the first year.
