My observations, based both on tonight and what I've seen this season -

Mort - Vastly improved positional sense, solid in defence
Maden] - Not quick enough for the wing, needs replacing
Reay - Flatters to deceive, does not look good enough
Rudd - Excellent tonight, needs a run in the team
Stanton - Should be the "go to" man in attack. Only genuine pace and criminally underused.
Donlan - Back to the centres please
Watson - Solid as ever, made to look ordinary at times by a lack of runners and support
Hobson - Liability. Time to move on
McConnell - Worthy of his place, solid performer
Morrison - Superb break in 2nd half, trier, not big enough at present
Hill - Quality forward, will surely leave before too long
Taylor - Too small for prop, too slow for back row. 100%er, but is he good enough?
Armistead - Too clever for this team by far.

Durbin - Good impact player
Meekin - Great prospect, very solid
Haggerty - Good game tonight, another for the future
Smith - Worked hard and worth a place in the 17

I feel the ones highlighted must have question marks against them.

Now the real problem - the coaching staff. Very poor in defence which in turn leads to ill-discipline. Looking totally devoid of any ideas with the ball in hand. The only times we moved the ball, we scored icon_eek.gif It's noticeable when we receive the ball from a kick in open play the wingers immediately come infield to take the ball up - every time icon_rolleyes.gif It's admirable they are helping out the pack, however they are in field for most of the set. If we do spin the ball out wide there's not enough numbers. This can only be what they are instructed to do. Yet again, a dire second half performance. Makes you wonder what goes on at half time

On paper, that team should have been good enough to beat Fev, however they were workmanlike, well organised and played to the limit (a bit like Huddersfield).

If this continues, relegation is real possibility.

Durbin just didn't do anything for me tonight. Jock gives us a better distribution and is very strong in defence. Durbin should give us speed at the play the ball and more options as he should be unpredictable as he has been in previous games. Tonight he hardly ever scooted and took the line on and his distribution at times was poor. I do rate him and he is definately one of our most dangerous players but he HAS to scoot and ask questions of the defence in order to be most effective. Otherwise we would be better saving a substitution and leaving Jock on.

I was there tonight, and am halfway through the 2nd half on Sky plus. Its bloody awful.

Not usre if it makes a difference but can someone tell me who played at stand off and why we play 6 drives and a handover.

Thanks.

Here is a view from one biased Leyther.

Hobson had a bad game. Armistead looks busy but misses tackles too. Reay had a bad game and we dropped too many balls............again and gave away 2 many penalties.

The spear tacle effort from Reay annoyed me what made him think he could get away with that ?

We have played 4 games in a very short time and all against teams who will probably be in the top 5. Thats a fact.

NK is a good coach and I still think if we win 7 more games we,ll finish 6th.

We are a young side and the rest till our next game will do the players good.

Am I disappointed of course I am but Fev deserved it on the night.

We broke their line a couple of times in open play and with a bit of a rub of the green it could have been a lot better.

The return of Aaron Smith will improve this side.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because #1 we are poorly coached
#2 Most of the team are playin a league above themselves
#3 Donlan was S/Off off a sort to be truthful he did,nt have
a bad game its just the forwards where battered by a
smarter pack thus not layin a platform for the backs
to get on top..

==========================================
From what ive seen this season Kelly as no idea END OFF !!!
Aaron Smith will not improve such a poor side the signing of several
experienced players will halfback / centre/ Two big forwards who can break the line will.. methinks this board have left it to late to sign anyone of that calibre with there attitude
GREAT STADIUM BUT POOR BOARD POORLY COACHED TEAM
WHO TRY TO PLAY A FORWARD GAME AND GET BATTERED WEEK IN WEEK OUT..
i,M NOT SLAGGING THE PLAYERS OFF THEY ARE PLAYING AT THERE LEVEL CANT KNOCK THE EFFORT THEY PUT IN BUT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CREATED BY THE POOR BOARD WE HAVE TRYING TO RUN A SIDE
ON PEANUTS AND GETTING A TEAM PUT TOGETHER ON THE CHEAP icon_razz.gif

Quote: Binosh "Widnes are goosed! Webster wants away cos hes sick of commuting, Doran wants back to Leigh and regrets moving, TKL is struggling due to a twisted sock again, Vark cant be d, Hartley's gone!'"
Webster - been poor so will probably have to buck up his ideas or move on
Doran - on the evidence of the game against you, you can have him back, but as he spent his time point scoring, I doubt the others will want him
Varkulis - agreed
Hartley - actually still here but God knows why as he is always injured.

Goosed? No, but vast improvement needed. We are still second despite putting in one of the worst performances I've ever seen on Good Friday from a Widnes side.

As for last night, Fev just looked better balanced, bigger and better organised. Watson looks a shadow of his former self. The two who stood out were my namesake (No 14) and Stanton who was outstading. But it isn't quite as black as you are painting. Morrison,Hill, Armistead are all good players and Donlan (played in the centres, what was Ned up to there??). This division is close and though Fax, Fev and Barrow look the likely winners so far, none of them have big squads and when injuries come, you have to wonder if they can maintain the good form. Leigh will make the play-offs.

Wasn't one of Yorky boys quotes when he arrived here 'Losing so many games at the start of the season isn't the standard that Leigh should be achieving' (or was there some poetic licence in that??) well Mr Kelly we have lost more at this ime of the season that we did last so???????

I'm sure Arthur would get rid but it would cost in the region of £70K so we're stuck with the pratt, move him 'upstairs' Arthur give young Rolley his chance, Kelly has had the same budget as Shaw had last year (well documented) but has proved he cant handle it, move him out of harms way and fast.

As for Benson he was given the biggest budget since Abram was in SL (and before that) and he couldn't drive a coach never mind be one, Heath and Basil (when he was there) did all the work, talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk. icon_lol.gif
