Dislike Leigh with a passion, but they are a million miles ahead of any other club in this league, a sad fact. [/quote:1xb0p6sn]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_24148.jpg |

He's still only 23 though so a long career still ahead of him. I think he could and will go on to do great things at Wire and hopefully for England/GB.

Well I remember watching both of them and I disagree. Chris edges it for me.

| Thats a fair point . I also agree with an earlier poster about Dave Chisnall. Now he was not just big he had a step on him and was fast too. Course like Murph Woods and Des he ended up at Warrington. Sickening it is all about money isn't it. Nothing ever changes in that regard.

| Like I said in an earlier post frank nothing changes over the years we have always been a feeding ground for the bigger clubs and because of our geographical position and stature in the game always will be

..... and I'll be standing in the Hilton Park stand, yes that's right I've named the North Stand myself: |
|
| John Woods of those I've seen. Head and shoulders above anything I've seen at this club.

| Quote: FredParky "In my time (1964 - present) John Woods, local talent, he had it all speed quickness of thought good hands great rugby brain great defensively too and a fantastic goalkicker, if he had taken the game seriously he would have been a RL great.
Des Drummond, not a natural RL player but boy did he learn fast and elusive, slight of stature but very very quick, his martial arts training helped him in his defence.
Alex Murphy the best ever RL player he had everything.
In recent times Neil Turley his record speaks for itself, Tommy Martyn well past his prime when he came to us but what a player.'"
I'd add Mickey Martin (look at his try scoring record for a second rower and if he'd caught every pass tha came his way he'd have more than doubled that) And what about Charlie Pawsey and Stan Owen - loads of 'em, but fans only rememer the backs and never the donkeys up front. And where does chris Hill fit in? But the greatest,Ihave to admit, was the mighty Alex Murphy

10303_1313522771.jpg Bolton by birth,
Irish by blood,
LEYTHER by heart and soul!!
30/04/06 "Some of W*gan's travelling fans headed towards the exit before it was even over.".................no change there then!![/quote:suio7kr3]
.....They are our people. Drummond, Costello, Manfredi, Svabic, Martyn, Street, Tickle, Patel, Mossop, Horo, Bristow, Leuleui, Varley, Fleary, Rivett, Tabern, Doran, Woods, Donlan, Wilshire, Leaefa, Hansen, Sale, Murphy… these are all my people.
As a Leyther, you’re one of us the moment you come here to wear the shirt. I don't care where you were born, what colour you are, what religion you are, what language you speak. You're one of us, part of our culture, writing our history as you create your own, and making us stronger for it....[/quote:suio7kr3]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10303.jpg |

| How about my namesake?
The AJM of his day!! Challenge cup winning captain, and Lions Tourist......and from the bit I've heard he could play a bit too!!
Murph and "God" are head and shoulders the best ever to pull on a Leigh shirt - Alex will edge it in most eyes, as he proved it for longer, and was more prolific at international level as well. As Fred says, if Johnny Woods had applied himself, he could have been the biggest player on the planet - but he would have lost some of that 'magic' that makes him our all time club legend.............would he have beat Leeds on his own, if he'd not been to the stag-do, and had a good nights sleep?? Maybe - but it wouldn't have been as good a story, would it??
Dessie was a class act.
In the modern era - Turley - points machine, and best reader of a game since Woody. Just a pity he was injury prone. Another few seasons, and he'd have owned the entire Leigh record book!!
