What a complete lack of understanding.... OK, so there is a Muslim party. The Muslim population of the country is around 4%. If that was spread evenly around the country, under PR they couldn't muster enough votes to gain a single seat, never mind a majority.
If they were all to move into one or two constituencies then perhaps they could manage to grab a seat. But at the end of the day that is all they could get.

Nice bit of scaremongering, but ultimately flawed. You may as well say that all the people in this country who hold a motorcycle license, or who believe in aliens, or who follow RL could be running the country. The same logic would apply. It could never happen without the tacit support of the rest of the country.

I note that Andy is currently running 3rd fave with many bookies for the Labour leadership.

Well Nik this is interesting and I thought we had agreed to disagree.

Well I stick by what I have said because I think I am right on this one. Wether Muslim people are spread around the country would in no way impact on a proportional representation system.Anymore than BNP members not all living in the same constiuency would impact on theirs.

I hope you do not think you should vote for a particular candidate because he/she happened to have born in the same country as you even if that persons breath smelled.

Oh and if you really think there is a supreme being who noone has ever seen apart from Fatima or that lad in Bolton Market who cut an aubergine in half and saw Allah's name well thats up to you. Oh and if anyone else who has seen this supreme being is reading this board was it in Westleigh Hindlay Leeds Mecca or Manchester or on your way home from a pub after a lock in.

Seems approachable enough - www.andyburnham.org/contact.asp. Find out about your concerns. Don't ask about RL rules of the why's Leigh never got promoted as it has nowt to do with him. Maybe you should ask the club that one instead as its the club that agreed to the rules and will be doing again in chasing the SL carrot. "In order to meet minimum standards for the next round of Super League License applications we need to be achieving average crowds of 2,500" Allan Rowley- All geared for chasing SL. We will never learn.

If Andy were to become the next Labour leader, and then Labour win the next General Election, it would be a constitutional nightmare given the fact that he is a Roman Catholic. Even Disraeli - born to a Jewish family - was baptised in the Anglican faith. So there hasn't been a Catholic PM of the UK.

So even if he is running 3rd favourite, I wouldn't expect him to seriously challenge.

Is he RC. His wife and children are but when we spoke to him about schools I am sure he said he wasn't.

In the last thirteen years Leigh has become the Mecca for poundshops. The only department store in miles has moved out. The once thriving night life has become a game of spot the over eighteen year old. Anti-social behaviour has become acceptable. Hundreds of jobs have have been lost at the likes of Volex, Barlos etc. We have welcomed with open arms the dregs of eastern Europe. Historical bulidings have been demolished around the town.

Thanks Mr Burnham for standing up for the town of Leigh. You have made this town a wonderful place to bring up my family, your a trooper. icon_thumb.gif

Yeah lets forget about the previous government who shut down the three largest Engineering works, the three pits and a handfull of mills, then ruined the local transport infrastructure by privatising the buses, well done Maggie and Major.

Whats the problem with Poundstores? they provide employment and cheap goods, as for the department store???? if you mean Woolworths well we are not the only high street to lose them.

He went to St Aelred's in Newton le Willows, so I'm guessing he is more likely RC than Anglican.

After checking on Wikipedia, it says he is a Roman Catholic.

the coop had been gone far before Andy came on the scene, plus did anyone ever actually buy anything from there thats why the coop shut ALL the major outlets including supermarkets in the northwest.

As for his religion I couldnt care less if he was Buddist hes by far the best MP this town has ever had, and yes he got my vote in the general though the tories got it in the locals.

I would be the worlds worst hypocrite (well not quite) if his religion bothered me. I was just making a point that there hasn't been a catholic PM, and unless there are some major changes in the country, it would be seriously difficult for a catholic to be PM - hence one of the first things TB did after leaving office was become a catholic.

Nik, it is you that has got it wrong, the current system wouldn't give a "Muslim" party any seats but PR would. If they represented 4% of the voters they would get 4% of seats.
