| Quote: tigerman1231 "Not sure id call it talent tbh you have signed aload of mercenaries from 'SALFORD' who finished where last season
You only lost 2 'league' games in 2 years because you were playing part timers most weeks.
The 8s were a disaster for you last year and you found your level as was seen in your final finishing position.
The reality is you may finish top of the Championship next year without losing a game (only threat could have been Bradford but they seem in the poo poo again, and can see them losing a few stars and going backwards.)
You may take a scalp or 2 in the CC (you wont win it with a championship squad.)
I also think you will be running a very thin squad if you sign Rangi which wont help you at all come the 8s, and even if you do make the MPG when it boils down to it if you play any SL opposition you will lose as there is a vast difference in SL quality and Championship quality as all championship teams found out last year.
The system favors SL teams and while ever it is like this i carnt see any Championship club making it to SL which makes the system flawed but there is a small glimmer of hope that will never come true sad but fact.'"
Thanks for your insight, just on the those Salford mercenaries :-
Harrison Hansen - Played for 2 clubs in a 13 year career so far and won everything and currently never played a game lower than the elite level of the sport
Cory Patterson - Played for 4 clubs in a 11 year career so far and not played a game lower than the elite level of the sport
Reni Matutai - Played for 4 clubs in a 15 year career and played a dozen games below the elite level whilst also playing SOO
Dayne Weston - Played entire career in NRL
If thats who you were referring to bring it on, we were a whisker away last year pal and added the above with more to come. Ill pin your post for a revisit next September!!

Correct these are exactly the players i was talking about.
Harrison Hanson: Played for 1 good club in his career won everything, decided he wanted more COLD HARD CASH left Wigan and the chance of winning more trophies for a career at the bottom of SL with no chance of winning anything now at Leigh in the championship =mercenary
Cory Patterson: Went from NRL to hull KR ripped it up to an extent then went home to peruse NRL/Boxing didnt get a gig so Salford came in with.... you guessed it COLD HARD CASH and the chance of playing middle 8s and a the possibility or relegation and intense games against championship opposition = mercenary
Reni Matutai: played City Origin 10 years ago not SOO big difference. Hands up 1 Aus cap 9 years ago....... but hes hardly Jonathan Thurston... not going to get you into SL im afraid if he was SL quality im sure he would be playing SL on more money than he is receiving at Leigh as he is at the back end of his career and is only after 1 thing...... you guessed it COLD HARD CASH = mercenary
Dayne Weston: is no Sam Burgess but ill give you this 1 hes 28 so still young in terms of a prop 6'3 so is not a small man has played NRL recently, could be your best signing.
IMO better signing than Moi Moi who is most definitely a mercenary and isn't even championship level and should retire.
All in all you could go on again like you did last year about how good Leigh actually are but when you actually look at the situation we are in a salary cap sport with championship clubs getting nowhere near as much funding, and being expected to compete with SL clubs getting a full 1.8m being FULLY paid to them by Sky, Leigh dont stand a chance and have to look at the reality until they are allowed to spend the full cap they wont be able to compete and will find themselfs in exactly the same situation as this coming year.

Richard M doesn't need to spend or waste cash on overawed players like Fui,and Hock we have Calahane and Tangata much better players who have proven their worth and cost much less it's not how much you spend it's what you spend it on that matters ,keep up Tripster.

| I suppose you could level that towards any Rugby League player in reality. There is certainly a lot more money in Rugby League now than in my day. Does that make every Full Time Rugby League player a mercenary.
I suppose it does according to tigerman. Anyway I am just off to The Bradford Bulls forum to use tigermans theory to explain why Lee Gaskell is at Bradford !

Yea my insight is very poor......
So your suggesting that yours is good actually thinking HH CP and RM have ambition and are not trying to earn as much money as possible for the least amount of effort
Take your Leigh tinted glasses off and look at the facts and how good said players are NOW not 2-3 even 10 years ago.
If you seriously think Leigh or any other championship club are going to be in SL in the next 5 years under the current system and rules then you must be bonkers.
The only way that would happen is if the salary cap was the same for Championship as SL and Derek was willing to pump 1.8 million of his own money (less the bit of funding you do get from Sky , the sponsors and season tickets ofc,) into getting you there but lets face facts again....
Super League is whole different beast and the pressure and intensity of it is far superior to anything that championship can serve up, and playing intense SL week in week out as apposed to tig and pass againt part timers most weeks will leave SL clubs in a far better position come August. FACT
Super League clubs have first choice on all the best players and the top teams get all the ELITE players so to speak, hence why the only clubs to win SL in 20 years other than Bradford in the 90s (look at them now) are Wigan Leeds and Saints, only Hull and Warrington have ever being at OT other than said teams, so the said teams automatically get first choice on any ELITE player with ambition and not after cash Tom Briscoe being a perfect example and Leeds not Leigh being linked with Sam B, as well as first pick on many youngsters. Also they can sign players for alot less money as ambitious players dont just play for money they actually want to win a trophy/ring (not a championship 1) so that also gives them alot bigger squad of players to choose from with a wage structure to suit. FACT
But other than that my insight is very poor and im talking utter poop
I suppose i could come on here and say
WOW guys your recruitment has being excellent with world class talent you will win the championship breeze the middle 8s walk the CC and win SL in 2017 but then I would really be talking out of my bum wouldn't I .....

Tiger man the Tripster won't listen, unless you say Leigh will win everything next season, sign all the best players ,and beat Yorkshire at Cricket.

| I think whatever job you do in life you want to achieve more.
RL players have a relatively short career workwise so to suggest some want just to win medals rather than make money seems to me to be strange.
To succeed and to be better you need to try and' as in life as in sport.. Good.
Superleague has to be the ultimate ambition for all clubs otherwise stay the same and you'll always be the same.
The club I follow has that ambition. Good.
You seem to think you can never do better than someone currently better than you. I don't think like that.
I think you are wrong Tigerman.

Look, we all know that the system is still heavily loaded in favour of SL teams, and that we poor relations in the Championship need to know our place.
However, surely any club with ambition needs to try and get to the 'promised land' within the system that's in place? I applaud my club for showing some ambition and will support them fully in that quest.
You quite rightly point out that, within SL itself, there is something of a 'closed shop' with only three/four teams winning anything. Yet that hasn't stopped your club from showing ambition, and having a decent crack, on the playing field at least, at breaking that monopoly at the top. After all, it's not that long since you guys were slumming it with the rest of us, down in the Championship.
Bradford, Leigh, Sheffield and Halifax, for starters, are going to try everything possible to get into SL, within the existing rules and constraints. Maybe some/all of those clubs have learned a lot from last season's Qualifiers and who knows, one of them may find the magic formula for getting to SL. Remember, it only needs one SL team to have a disastrous run of form, or (heaven forbid) a glut of injuries, at the wrong time, to open the door for a Championship club.
Meanwhile, good luck with your quest again, next season.
