| I was a big supporter of the Friday night games but in this scenario I think it'd be far more beneficial to take advantage of a big away support on the Sunday, something that should help boost the home support as well with a better prospect of a big atmosphere etc.

You forgot to add and the rest of the days in the week.

| Quote: Leyther_Matt "Don't see any major advantage from it being played Friday night. Fev's team are hardly going to be still down t'pit until 5pm, they're virtually full time just as we are.'"
We have a handful who work for the Community Dept full-time like you guys but that wouldn't class us as "virtually full time" by any means...the issue around Friday night is whether you want to maximise the crowd or not as you'd get a massively bigger following from Fev on a Sunday than a Friday. Think of what the M62 is like on a Friday evening.
That's always assuming the BBC don't show a bit of imagination for once and realise that this, not Leeds/Sts, is THE most interesting tie of the round...

It would be great if the bbc could showcase leigh v fev as the tie of the round, however it won't happen with Leeds v saints. I'd prefer a Saturday evening.

| Not going to satisfy everyone, but playing on a Saturday evening isn't a good idea during the football season IMHO.

| Keep Fridays for the history books marked under the heading of 'tried and failed'.
What a cracking draw.
Should see both clubs make a few pennies from this fixture, hopefully Fev could get some subsidised coaches for the fans thus we might be able to open the South stand for them to create a proper Challenge cup atmosphere (and also keep both clubs 'one game a season' drunk trouble makers who turn up at big fixtures like this in an area where they can't drag both clubs reputations down).

I think I remember the JPS Trophy had to be drawn again in 1985-86. It was live on breakfast TV and we were drawn HOME against Wigan. Due to some cock-up they had a re-draw and we were suddenly AWAY at Widnes. Didn't matter though as we beat them anyway and were knocked out by Wigan in Semi Final. Does anyone else remember this or have I dreamt it?

Yes, that is correct. We did a quick rough count and 200 would be a generous estimate. (I think some Leigh fans were in there amongst them). Check the photo on the facebook '.Leigh Banter' page.

At the time we were top of the 2nd div and Widnes were top of the first. It was really foggy and i think the score was 31-35.

icons077e_files/4864-863FALH-msnicons.jpg How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?:icons077e_files/4864-863FALH-msnicons.jpg |

Yes I remember tha and the subsequent excellent win at Naughton Park... Was n`t Jeff Clarke still around then? Did n`t we get knocked out in the semi by Leeds at Fartown?
