Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

They have always had a huge dormant fan base that was waiting for them to match Hull FC , when have we ever been close to matching W1g4ns attendances ?
What did they draw early doors in 2007 , compared to us in 2005 ?
Not saying Im right , it is only my opinion , but to take 2,500 up to SL as a starting point would be disasterous , IMO of course

| Trying to get to kids through school is difficult. Kids are not the family decision makers and are notoriously bad at taking forms etc home from school. Try organising a school trip that involves kids taking home a form to get signed and bring back £3 deposit. Half get left at school, a quarter get left in their school bags and most of the rest get forgotten about or ignored by parents. Aiming at parents direct would be better if possible. Offer a good deal and plaster all over the town. Maybe offer exetreme concessions to unwaged and advertise this in the job centre, library etc. Also why not get some translated into Eastern European languages and try to attract the immigrants we have in Leigh. They may be interested and flattered if they see something in their own language..

Seriously that isn't a bad idea. Obviously wouldn't get 1200 but might get a good few. Have 2 schools in at the same time and have a competition to see how can get most in. School teams play as the curtain raiser.

| as an afterthought for Primary schools, the most popular time for any school trip is the gift shop were the kids can buy rubbish. Give pencils and other bits out as prizes.

You're getting the idea now arent you , you have the east stand as the family stand , no alcohol sales , you TELL EMC to put on a kids meal deal of Hotdog ,cone of chips and carton of pop for £ 2 , you invite enough to make up 1,200 for 4 games , thats 5,000 people through the turnstiles , for game 5 you offer all of them [ because you have all their details ] a family ticket for £ 15
Then you start again with another 4 games , and so on and so on ,

Yes you do , thats one of the major points , its no good trying to get an extra 50 people at a time , you need at least a 1,000 in to make the place ' rocking ' , as you say you challenge the schools to see who can get the most , you put the teachers and their partners in the West stand with a free buffet on for them in one of the boxes
You challenge the kids to see who can cheer the loudest
You also invite all your opponents fans by providing free coach travel for them to improve the atmosphere in the LSV
Get over 4,000 in for every game and the whole place will feel different and then people will want to return , if not for every game , at least for some , but it isn't just something you do for one game here and there , it needs a concerted effort over many years

icons077e_files/4864-863FALH-msnicons.jpg How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?:icons077e_files/4864-863FALH-msnicons.jpg |

The curtain raiser has to be done as a serious junior game not just a glorified training session for tick and pass. I've seen lots of kids curtain raisers over the years and not just at Leigh. They're always treated as something to get out of way as quick as possible before the "real" game starts. These players are the future of our club and we should treat them as special as soon as possible. I played on Hilton Park when I was a kid, and 40 odd years later I can remember every minute. It's a real big deal for kids to play on a professional ground and we should treat them properly. The kids, their parents and their grandparents will be looking forward to the big day for ages. Lets make sure it's a great day for them to remember, rather than giving them the impression this is just filler..

I think that's more of an issue when it's a half-time game. The key is to take sure that the parents etc [ido[/i stick around for the 'main event' though rather than just bugger off after their own kids games.

what you could do is have the college carnigie finals at LSV, when i was at college there were 5 different finals at Bradford. Everybody stayed after their games to watch Leigh&pie college v St helens college.
that will attract a few hundred people alone. Also what game would you do it before? a big one........
