My observations, based both on tonight and what I've seen this season -
Mort - Vastly improved positional sense, solid in defence
Maden] - Not quick enough for the wing, needs replacing
Reay - Flatters to deceive, does not look good enough
Rudd - Excellent tonight, needs a run in the team
Stanton - Should be the "go to" man in attack. Only genuine pace and criminally underused.
Donlan - Back to the centres please
Watson - Solid as ever, made to look ordinary at times by a lack of runners and support
Hobson - Liability. Time to move on
McConnell - Worthy of his place, solid performer
Morrison - Superb break in 2nd half, trier, not big enough at present
Hill - Quality forward, will surely leave before too long
Taylor - Too small for prop, too slow for back row. 100%er, but is he good enough?
Armistead - Too clever for this team by far.
Durbin - Good impact player
Meekin - Great prospect, very solid
Haggerty - Good game tonight, another for the future
Smith - Worked hard and worth a place in the 17
I feel the ones highlighted must have question marks against them.
Now the real problem - the coaching staff. Very poor in defence which in turn leads to ill-discipline. Looking totally devoid of any ideas with the ball in hand. The only times we moved the ball, we scored
It's noticeable when we receive the ball from a kick in open play the wingers immediately come infield to take the ball up - every time
It's admirable they are helping out the pack, however they are in field for most of the set. If we do spin the ball out wide there's not enough numbers. This can only be what they are instructed to do. Yet again, a dire second half performance. Makes you wonder what goes on at half time
On paper, that team should have been good enough to beat Fev, however they were workmanlike, well organised and played to the limit (a bit like Huddersfield).
If this continues, relegation is real possibility.
