Quote Michael_Ward="Michael_Ward"They're asking people £18 to spend a minimum of 4 1/2 hours standing in freezing conditions to watch two semi-pro teams blast amateur opponents.
Or for those not tempted by tantalising prospect of Swinton v [iWhoeveritis[/i, they're asking £18 to watch Leigh take on an amateur side in the early CC stages.
Honestly can't see what angle they're trying to sell this one on.'"
You've nearly nailed it on the head Michael but I'm going to highlight a few bits you missed .
This is our 4th home match in a fortnight and people can't afford it .
The LSV / Club don't expect a huge crowd for this " Double Header " and will only have the West stand open to squeeze as much out of the spectators as possible .
I'm like you I couldn't give a monkey's toss who Swinetown play or have any inclination to go out of my way to watch them and some Swinetown fans will feel the same and leave after their game , but you have to feel for their loyal supporters who are now going to be fleeced to watch their team .
Couple all this together with NCL Div 1 side East Leeds followers who are made up drawing a top Championship side away and hoped for a good day out and to gain some funds from this game to keep their club running at all levels , and they won't be interested in watching Swinetown either
My bet is that the East Leeds supporters will be in the Leigh East clubhouse watching the British obsession with a curiosity Horse race that stops a nation " The Grand National " where everyone's granny has a 50p E/W bet and then go to the match and be ripped off .
Even the Toulouse players and fan will ask one question after the match " Quel cheval a gagne Grand National ? " and " Le bleu de sacre qui est la demiere fois je suivent les bouts de Charlie Caroli "
A scandalous decision from whoever made it and I don't expect a reasoning from up above any time soon .
I hope PR uses this game to blood some of our U20's youngsters mixed with some experienced players and let's see just what talent we have coming through
