| I undertand that but to keep a player from the 'grasp' of other clubs in their league (most Ch 1 contracts used to have a Championship 'get out' clause too) it's a clause that is usefull especially if you want any chance of keeping your player when contract negotiation time comes around, and TBH Chris' contract was negotiated some months before it came to an end/start so maybe there isn't one in there, but again thinking of the players benefit if I was an agent i'd want either a free or small fee clause.
I remember an ex-coach saying to me that players who he would have liked in his squad but couldn't afford who went to a lower division club he advised to get the get out clause put in their contract, as this was an obvious way he could sign them if the money situation changed at his club and he found he was able to afford them later in the season, devious beggars these coaches

| Quote j.c="j.c"Looking at it from a club point of veiw they would be daft to allow such a clause,it makes no sense.Fetherstone have financed ther youth structures for years to come with the sale of ther prize assets'"
But if a contract is going to run out and you get nothing you are better off with a release clause where you get x amount of money if a bid is made.

Would imagine he is well over 200m then as he made that break in the 2nd half of about 30 - 40m's!!
The guy is just awesome I can't recall him ever having a bad game! as much as i'd hate him leaving Leigh I really hope he has a crack at SL

Unless i'm miss understanding you,it doesn't work like that.
Its the player who has the get out clause then he can walk when ever he wants to with or without a fee.
If there is no clause and another club comes in for him its up to the club whether they sell or not.It also allows them to negotiate a better price for him.

| The club can ask if there is a get out clause for a sub-clause (?) requesting a minimum fee or 'other' recompense to be given e.g. X number of home friendlies with the SL club, or that the player remain with the 'selling' club until end of season, long term loan of other players etc..

| That's what I thought it was like Fred, a kind of 'structured' contract. So that if a smaller club has a talented player, they get some kind of reward for him if they sell on.

| I wondered whether any SL club has ever stuck to that agreement, they usually announce 'a special agreement' with X club which always ends in tears.

| This is why it should be a proper transfer fee.

| The problem is that Super League clubs are too interested in signing the next second rate import (looking for quick fix) than signing talented young English players.

The way the Bulls did, when we just signed Kyle Briggs from Fev? And paid a sizeable transfer fee. And did it all above board, and both clubs happy.
Not fair to tar everyone with one brush?
