Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| I still have SKY and will continue to increase Uncle Ruperts billions
Those that want to make a protest are welcome to do so
We dont get any money from SKY and in all truth we dont earn any either , so I dont really see it as a problem
What is wrong is the RFL's lack of respect that is shown to the clubs outside SL
They have little to no interest in us and spend little if any time and effort in promoting the competition we play in and the clubs in it , there is the odd exception to this of course depending on location
It is the RFL our anger and dissatisfaction should be aimed at

| Quote: mr. chairman "well said dave , i talk to a lot of people in rugby union and the big difference is that union put a lot of money into grassroots , example eccles ru who play in a low league got 250000 of the rfu last year, we will never be a national sport untill the rfl and its clubs invest in grassroots, i also spoke with david lyon in depth about union and to be honest i was emmbarrased and felt deflated'"
i agree that we need to develop young british players like the rhinos have done with their academy.
but we can hardly point the finger at sky because other super league clubs spend their money on overseas has beens and player wages.
i bet if we get to super league ever again we too would be wanting those very signings but of a much higher quality than the last shambles

I disagree with that actually , as a 2 nd tier club our main aim should be the survival and prosperity of our club and the competition we are in
Unfortunatley we dont have the resources to produce the quality of player needed to beat the Aussies
RL will never have the finance to be like union and therefore has to take a different pathway

| Quote: Twitch "If everyone who supported a non SL team who subscribes to SKY cancelled and stopped going to pubs that showed SL on Friday and telling the landlord why, yes I think it could make a differance.
If everyone thought its not worth trying because it won't make a differance nothing would happen in this world of any significance.
Leaders of today have counted on our tolerance and willingness to put up with most things, the one thing all politicians and Heads of companies fear is a public outcry against themselves or their organisations.
If you as an individual don't make a stand, you can't moan if nothing changes.
I cancelled my subscription and stopped going to watch the SL games in the pub, It may not change a thing but it makes me feel a bit better.'"
You're missing the point. Unusually for a Leigh fan, I support franchising. Without it the game as a whole is completely up sh**e creek without a paddle. Perhaps not on the playing side, but without Skys money the game is a dead duck.
You want to see Leigh in SL, so do I. But I don't want to see us in SL playing in front of 10 blokes and a whippet, which is where we are going to go without Sky. And he who pays the piper calls the tune.
Look at the sport from a greater angle than that of a parochial supporter and you will see we have a history of throwing good money after bad in trying to keep 'traditional' clubs going. We can't afford to do that any more, and the only viable alternative is to bow to Skys rules.

|
| So you want these so called bad teams to die then?
And replace them with more french more welsh oh and a irish one and a scottish one....how does that help England?
The game will survive without sky...lets look were all this sky money goes?
On youth ? on lower tier clubs? on a national stadium for our national team?
Lets look at what the game as achieved since super league as started...do we win internationals? nope infact we play less internationals now
Do we have a strong vibrant game? nope infact the game is losing more clubs than gaining with so called old tired clubs being allowed to die slowly
Have we gots loads of great young talent coming through? nope all levels are full of players unable to hold down a regular spot in the southern hemisphere
So basically all this sky money seems to be for clubs to line the pockets of club directors, over rated players from down under and over flated payments to sub standard homegrown players.
So if sky walk away and why would they walk away from a product they get thesecond and third weekly highest rated sport on there network for basically peanuts how would our game change?
Would it mean we could go back to regular touring sides ,even playing against clubs on a tour
Would it mean internationals getting aired on national tv at prime time saturday afternoon ,I mean we use to fill bigger grounds than what we do now under sky?
Aye sky have been such a great saviour of our game

tell me then how the game will survive financially wihout sky.
who will show live games and match their money
how will clubs keep their top players from going rah rah
and finally with the exception of wigan i would guess every super league club has better attendances than the year before sky came in

| Like I said were does the money go?
Players..yes
So all these suppose wonderful players will flood to union...don't make me laugh
Like I said show me were we have improved under sky?
Do you know what he true attendace figures are for the clubs when you take out the free tickets and reduce kids entrance?
Answer the challenge cup attendances thats the true figure as all have to pay so people don't take the kids along...great we are getting youngsters watching but the million dolar question is ...over the years how many continue to watch once they have to pay?
For all the million sky have paid the rfl under sl have squandered the lot...games dieing in the heartland..internationally we are rated 3rd or even 4th
So please list the benefits we have now we didn't have before

Aye sky have been such a great saviour of our game'" Actually, it continues to fall. Recently speedway and tennis have attracted bigger viewings than SL! No, SL and franchising isn't working and won't work, but the idea that by cancelling our subscriptions it'll make any difference is unlikely. RL's problem is that it is unfashionable. Reducing P&R has made it more elitist whereas the RFU, realising that, have strengthened the second tier. The RFL is too stupid to realise that the franchise model (such as the Magners League) is a financial disaster area with even famous clubs like Cardiff and Llanelli unable to fill stadia for league games.

I'm afraid not. Not got time to post under TS never mind log in and out of two accounts. I trust the IP police will verify this.
For the record though my late father God rest his soul did start this thread. I told him at the time this is one you have definitely got right for sure Dad!

| I recently cancelled sky sports and won't be getting it back until the RFL brings back automatic P&R for the best team(s) on the pitch
The longer the RFL sticks with the 4 year cycled licensing with behind closed door decision making, the more NL fans are going to get annoyed. I wonder what excuse will be used to deny us access in 2015
Much as it pains me to say it - f it gets to the point where there will never be regular P&R again, clubs like Leigh, Fev, Barrow etc might be best to consider whether to threaten en masse to switch back to RU, if it were the only chance we could be a top flight rugby club again. I'd rather see Leigh Rugby est 1878 go back to RU and aim for their top flight, than die a death with no hope of ever being in the top flight, and lose all our youngsters to notable predators like Wire, Salford and Saints.
Leigh is a proud founder member of the NU with heritage that pre-dates it. We are one of the oldest professional rugby clubs in the world. We are a big club and with our facilities, geography, and pure rugby talent would be more than welcome in RU. Why should we fade away into obscurity, when our local leigh stars could play on a top stage and be famous.
Forgive me for this heresy - but the RFL have driven me to thinking like this..........
