Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| <sarcasm mode>Maybe make the rule even more stupid by letting players lift another player to catch the ball, while 5 other players stretching out holding hands with last player having his foot over the touch line. Absolutely amazing skill and awareness it would be too - and give a penalty Try and penalty as punishment, with kicker being sent off. </sarcasm mode>
Still think its a silly rule

| Didn't they outlaw the rule about throwing the ball over the dead ball line when a player had one foot out of play to get a 20m tap??
To me this is a pretty similar rule.

| How did this foot over the line thing work AGAINST us and Neil Turley against Wigan in that tight cup match a few years ago?
Wasn't that a kick off incident?
It proved to be a game breaking decision.

Talk about being bitched - what a torrid time they've had. They'll be looking for some A&E rest time for the next three years at least.:simpsons/PDT13.gif |

At the time a defending player was allowed to have one foot over the dead ball line and scoop a moving ball out of play to get a 20m restart. The problem was that the officials deemed, in Turley's case, the ball was stationary which resulted in a drop-out being given.

| I think it is stupid rule to penalise a very accurate kick like that. It should be in favour of the defending side if the player with the ball goes into touch. Also it is stopping the game and not letting it flow. The team recieving the ball already have an advantage from the restart so why give them an extra one. After a try or a penalty and the restart is from the middle it should be all sqaure and start again otherwise the restart is not fair.

| One of the strangest things i have seen this season was on a Sky game. It was involving Wigan and i think it was George Carmont. Carmont gets tackled and its one of those where the defender falls off him as he hits the ground, he stands up and the Ref, think it was Silverwood, waves play on and Wigan end up scoring. The ref goes to the screen and asks the Video ref to check to make sure the tackle wasnt complete. Luckily it turned out it wasnt but it would have been interesting how they would have restarted the game because Carmont stood up and on the replay the ref could clearly be seen waving play on so what is he meant to do and how would the game have been restarted if he was tackled?

| Play the ball from the spot where he was deemed to have been tackled.

If he had been deemed to have been tackled and then got up and moved off the spot instead of playing the ball surley that is a penalty to the defending side?

He said the ref had told him to play on though.

does that matter if it is in the same play? if someone knocks on and is allowed to play on they can go to the VR and pull it back for the knock on as long as another tackle hasn't been made

Surely thats not right on the attacking team. Ref says play on, so you play on and score but then ref goes to video ref and says no Try and penalty to defense.
What can player do to avoid penalty in that situation? He's done nothing wrong and just following instructions.
