| I'm concerned that what was once a community project involving the people of Leigh a handful of years ago appears to be turning into a millionaires personal hobby.

Well you've not blown it away have you lol!
So we lost to the worst team in Super League, when they had 2 injuries..... And Rowley is a mastermind coach?
People are getting caught up on titles, not losing a game all year, getting far in the challenge cup and signing Moi Moi doesnt get you into Super League.....
When played Hull KR and they just blew the game, it came apparent that the tactics being used are dumb and schoolboy like

| Reading the 2 public statements it appears Paul Rowley really didn't really want to resign and had his ideal job, but felt he had no other option. Or maybe the 2 statements were mutually agreed upon in advance.
I'd like to think Derek is working tirelessly to reverse this decision and fix any disagreements or internal and relationship problems that may have overwhelmed the people involved. Paul Rowley deserved the squad he now had and it's a damn shame if he doesn't get to see the fruits of his labour and achieve the collective potential over the next 12 months and beyond. I'm sure we all foresaw PR at the helm for the next 3-5 years and eventually in Super League. I think a lot of the players will be disappointed and demotivated by what has happened.
Could the recent resignation be related to this article below. PR rightfully wanting to operate professionally and quietly going about business and DB with the intention of bringing eyeballs and media attention to the club ultimately generating more sales for AB Sundecks immediately - which as club sponser must be the objective. And PR not wanting to operate under such conditions?

Me thinks some people are looking for excuses not to buy ST here.
A team made up of some of the most exciting players we have had for many many a year, who could win this league blindfolded and without a coach.
And what exactly do you expect the club to say, the coach has resigned for personal reasons that he does not wish to disclose - could be any one of a number of reasons (heard a good few rumours) but surely the fans and the club need to respect that.
PR felt he had to go, so be it - onwards and upwards, go buy your season ticket and support the club you love and enjoy the ride

Sorry, yes-'hobby' not the best choice of word.
I guess what I mean is that for a time we had very much a sense that is was "our" club p, rather than "his" club.
Of course not only is DB entitled to run the club as he sees fit with all the time, effort and money he puts in, but he also deserves to.
There's a fine line of not crossing into areas he's better off not going in order not to alienate other people that are needed for the club to be a success.
Maybe it's a price we pay as fans:
Is it really a choice between a community club with no money or a rich club with a sole owner making most/all the decisions?
DB is a more successful and wealthier business man than I'll ever be, so I defer to his expertise but keeping everyone on board is a tough challenge and there are temptations not to...
Cheers. //p.

You quite rightly mention the quality of the players. It isn't the Rowley resignation that has caused me to pause but the rumours that x,y and z are also leaving. So far I have seen 4 names mentioned, one in the press and the rest on social media. Personally I think it is unlikely but it still brings about doubt and hopefully the club will find its voice over the next few days.

Paul,
Irrespective of how much influence the owner exerts on the club, I don't think we can say that it's at the expense of being a 'Community' club. The club appears to be highly involved with the local community amateur clubs and local charities. And, didn't we win the 'Championship Community Club of the Year' award last season?

| I can't believe some of the things that I am reading. Not a single one of you know exactly what has happened. Why not buy your ST. Have you suddenly decided that you are not going to be Leigh fans because the coach has resigned? The club is much bigger than any one person. Let it be a player, coach or owner, but the latter is very important person as without him we are goosed. Pauls dad is still employed by the club so that sort of tells me that its something else. Derek does no have to make a statement to any one apart from the team, coaching staff and any other investors. I personally think it crazy to demand one. We are fans of sporting club and to withdraw support is doing nothing but damage to the club. I don't know Derek personally and have no wish to but that man has pumped a good lump of dosh into this club that has had a lot to do with where we are now. Lets get behind the board and the team and enjoy what we see on the field. I am very sorry to see Paul leave but he has gone now so lets look to the new season.

I think you have it spot on there Col.
The coach states that he resigned for 'personal' reasons, and we must respect that. Whilst there has been a bit of debate with the owner about going unbeaten and winning the Challenge Cup ( ) both he and the owner seem to have been working closely together and singing from the same him sheet very recently. Nowhere is there any hint of a fall-out with the owner, or BOD. 'Personal' presumably means just that - 'personal', and we have no divine right to know those reasons, however 'entitled' we feel! I'm sad to see him go, possibly so close to fulfilling his desire to take the club into SL, but I for one, support him in his decision, and hope that he can soon sort out his 'personal' issues and be back in the Sport he loves, pursuing a highly promising career.
As fans, our job is simple, and just the same as it was last week - to support our club and whoever gets the coaching job.

I agree totally Alan & Col, I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me & have so many questions, just imagine what its like "behind the scenes" at the club & they have to take action (the right action) whilst fending off sponsors, fans , media and employees all demanding to know why & what you gonna do !.

| Will we see him in the stands or on the terraces?
This may answer questions or just add to the speculation for the I've heard brigade
Personally, for now, I wish him happiness in his life and respect his personal wishes for reasons to be left private.
I say for now in respectively of his wishes of privacy.
If we ever find out his reasons, only then will I feel entitled to judge or have a different opinion.
Thanks to Paul for where you have helped us to get to today as a club

| It's a free country and yet again people are getting bagged for their personal decisions. Nothing changes. So if anyone has anything in any way negative that they wish to say, probably best not to do it on here.
..and my reasons have nothing to do with Paul Rowleys no doubt very difficult decision to resign and I fully respect his wishes that his reasons are personal.
I would like to know that we have a committed team and that we are financially sound. I will be at Batley and every other game this season that I can. At this moment would prefer to pay as I go than stump it up up front. If I go to every game the club wins anyway, I'm not fussed about £40.
