Sorry but you took the p155 out of Leigh today , that wasn't even a reserve squad , yes we were poor , but in my opinion unless you are willing to comit today to a better team next year then best to forget this fixture now
You have your reasons , fine but you obviously dont understand the history and the emotions involved between the towns , decide now what is to happen next year , if you intend to repeat what you did today , say so , then we can arrange a more fitting match against Blackpool'"

Starbug is Leigh though and though i really dont know why you are getting on at him to be honest.

Is he - really?
Media will play massive part along with public opinion and expectations - some people have failed but would like the club to take the same path. These people are dragging Leighs chances in the direction of failure they happened to take. Its time to take Leigh forward. No excuses, bury the hatchet - please.

Steve so you think we would have got more out of a game with Blackpool by the way no disrespect to Blackpool.

| Maguire told everybody last week what that he would be fielding a reserve side and named his team on Friday.
Milward didn't even have the decency to name a team.
The gate today of 3,500+ was higher than any of Leighs attendances in Co-Op Championship last season.
The team Wigan fielded today was their reserve Grand Final winning side with the exception of
Mellor and Pryce (injured).

So a very good young side then.

Yes they are, and if you look back through my posts the game went as I thought it would. Wigans bench was made up of 16, 17 and 18 year olds, it took it's toll in the end.

As i have said before you should be proud of the young lads I thought it would be a good test for us and it was, but it seems you are trying to rub it in a bit some how anyway all the best for the season and i do mean that, plus hope we get some of the players we saw today on dual contracts.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

You are making my point for me
The w1g4n bench could have easily been made up of some senior players , given 15/20 minutes in both halves
The Leigh display was terrible , part of that display was in my opinion down to the lack of maturity of the team they were playing , Last week the leigh team took 30 minutes to get going [ understandably ] against Warrington , today it just didn't happen at all
Most top 4/5 Championship teams would have put 30/40 points on your juniors today

No, I'm not and I'm genuinely sorry if it has come across that way.
I watch a lot of acadamy and reserve rugby and that Wigan team is probably the best I have seen at that level.
That Wigan side would give any championship side a good game, and would certainly be in the top half of top half that division. They lost only one game last season and in that they outscored the opponents in tries. Like today they missed their kicks.
And I also hope that Leigh do well, some of our young players would gain a great benefit from playing at that level week in week out and I'm sure discussions are already underway between the clubs.

| I disagree Starbug.
We didnt play well and should learn to reaise our game and intesity regardless of opposition (as you have quite rightly stated elsewhere)
However, the young pies plus Mr Bentham stifled us around the play the ball and with their quick movement off the line (?) and enthusiasm didnt allow us to play.
They would have given most champioship sides a run for their money today which is a testament to their skill and endevour.
Still does not mean I am happy and bitterly disappointed with our own display

| Thought that Wigan side would quite comfortably compete in the top half of our league. They were far more refined around the ruck area and certainly didn't give away the cheap penalties that we were. A valid test for us and certainly more worthwhile than getting a tonking from their first team.

Correct on all counts. I certainly enjoyed the game and thought it was value for money. It will be interesting to see if any of the Wigan youngsters go to Leigh on loan. Ben Davies was outstanding as were Josh Charnley and Josh Vievers.
Wakefield were supposedly interested in taking Vievers and Davies on loan, I'm not sure how far that has progressed.
The crowd yesterday was the best at any RL game in the UK over the weekend, so well done to all who attended.
For those who didn't, unlucky, it was a good contest between two well matched sides, who will both get better as the season progresses.
Good luck to you all at Leigh, see you next year, unless we draw you in the Challenge Cup, now that would be fun.
