Toby Adamson. Signed him with his brother Luke, from Rochdale. I have also been impressed with him so far. He consistently does 80 minutes, and has probably been our (i.e. excluding D/R) outstanding player, to date.

| Quote: Alan "After an excellent first half, against the strong wind, we completely blew it, in the second half. With the (weather) advantage we hadf, the last thing we needed, was two in the bin, within five minutes. The stream of penalties we conceded, was suicidal and, on the rare occasions we got hold of the ball, we promptly coughed it up again. Two of Bradford's second half tries, came directly as a result of us losing the ball, firstly right on their line, and then 20 metres out. In each case, the player picking up the loose ball, scored.
No complaints - the better team over 80 minutes, were the deserved winners, yet I feel we can beat them.
Finally, could someone please advise me on the ruling about the player lying behind the ptb? We were constantly penalised for it, yet Bradford weren't. I completely fail to see how Adamson could clear the area, when he was out prone! This ruling really needs sorting. That said, we were completely the architects of our own downfall - and Bradford gained in confidence, with the glut of second half possession, and were good value for their win.'"
Speed essential 11. The play-the-ball must be performed as quickly as possible. Any player who intentionally delays the bringing of the ball into play shall be penalised.

| There appeared to be a lot of subjectivity on the part of the ref. I know there is always a degree of interpretation on the ref's part, but those two clear examples on Sunday. (i.e. the injured Bradford lad pointed out by the Leigh players, and the ref rightly stopped the game. Then Adamson, who was also clearly injured, but penalised when he didn't roll away. He then required lengthy treatment before he could resume.) Like all other decisions, consistency is required.

| I didn't go on Sunday however, once again we seem to have fallen foul of the officials! No doubt there were some puzzling decisions because Tom Grant always seems to conjure those up!
We have had four completely different teams over the past four years and, four different Coaches however, we still appear to be committing more offences than our opponents!

| Both sides seemed to incur his wrath on Sunday but we seemed to take it in turns. To be fair both sides were standing offside all day and lying in the ruck or trying to milk a penalty at the PTB. He had a job on trying to keep the game flowing with that going on. There were some baffling decisions but you always get a couple.

| There is a picture on the Leigh Facebook page of Jonny Pownall catching the Bradford penalty that he was binned for. Hes not even close to being in touch, you have to question what the linesman has seen?
No wonder Jonny was annoyed (I know he should have kept his mouth shut)

| Clearly well inside the line and Bradford scored the next set I think. Anyway we lost.

Gaining consistency must start with interpreting the " Laws of the game" until that's addressed, I'm not sure what laws Officials are following because it certainly isn't what is written.
They still have laws of the game written that don't support the on field decisions of the Ref. They still have the laws that the PTB should be heeled back, and also the attacking player after being tackled should wait until the ruck is clear before the PTB.
Now if we want consistency, surely the " Laws of the game" require adapting so all Refs/Players/Coaches and fans are all on the same page.
I'm not saying its wrong to have a quick PTB and roll it through without using the heel or players not clearing the ruck. But the laws of the game cannot be followed without clarification for all.
It must be a nightmare for Refs.

| The laws need updating to cover what is actually happening in various aspects of the game. The play the ball is the current area of ridicule, the referees should have the discretion to punish the real offenders in the situation, they are regularly ignoring the ball carrier moving off the mark and penalising the defender. They must be following an instruction to penalise the defender.

| To be fair to refs the PTB is such a mess you can penalise both ball carrier and defender a lot of the time. On Sunday there were many cases of the ball carrier deliberately locking in a defender or moving off the mark and the defender deliberately lying in the way to slow things down. All sides are guilty of it.
I’m not really sure what you do about it other than adopt the two refs system. Trouble is we haven’t enough refs to do that over here.

Then that contradicts the laws of the game, hence inconsistency. Then again if the laws of the game are obsolete and instruction takes precedence over those laws! What laws is the sport following?

What laws of the game do new up and coming Referees have to follow? Laws of the game or instruction that contradicts those laws?
Yes, all sides are guilty of it. Its something that has been created and manipulated, but now we have Refs following instruction, not the laws of the game.
How can you complain about Refs/ Officials when the laws of the game have never been updated/adapted to todays modern game?
