I suppose you could say that the entry of French clubs into the tournament is as pointless as the likes of Leigh entering the Challenge Cup.

Not quite the same imo.
When a decent Championship side gets to the quarter finals they do have a chance of making some money and the possibility of a shock win' however unprobable a win would be.
The clear flaw in the Anglo French comp is that each club plays one game so all four games are essentially friendlies and cost more to stage' meaning some ruling body has to pay for the cost of the games. |

Again if this was champions v champions it could be taken on the road, maybe even played at one of the new rugby league clubs grounds... weekend in Northampton as an example anyone? That would be far better.. Give it some pomp and circumstance instead of it being a midseason friendly with a random french side..

What I want to know is why Toulouse seem to have been the only club with an automatic place in this 'tournament', and I wonder how the other French clubs feel about this?
"Featherstone Rovers, Sheffield Eagles, Leigh Centurions and Halifax will also be playing for national pride when they compete against the Toulouse Olympique and the three highest ranked clubs from the French domestic competition over the weekend of June 2 and 3."

Promised to them as part of the compensation for being invited to leave the Championship last year. A bit like the 'promise' to our 'top four' to have an extra home match - a promise that 'Fax and Sheffield are delighted about!
