My Grandma used to wash and repair / sew the shirts for Leigh back in the 60's and 70's.
In my cupboard I have an original Leigh Coat of Arms which was sewn onto the shirts.
My Dad said it was an extra one from the '71 final shirts but he might have just been building my hopes up when he gave it to me about 30-odd years ago.

Yeah, that's my oldest as well - along with the blue away shirt......my mate's late Mum was a supervisor at Ellgren, and the two shirts were sold as 'seconds', but were actually 'mint'!!
I think the ex may have screwed up washing them at some point, 'cos they must have shrunk!!

The oldest shirt still wearable in my collection is the '99 vintage (I think!) Bulldog home shirt sponsored by Blakleys.

That suprises me , as i have a Windowcraft Leigh shirt ,i didnt think it was that old , and it isnt Cherry and White hoops either .My old mate Tony Cottrell was in the team then .

That is not the same shirt , unless you have been in our loft Matt?But it is the exact same design , only thing is it wont fit me now , i was a tad slimmer in those days .

Nicked from the ever reliable 'Old Rugby Shirts' website. I was only born in 1986 so fair to say I don't remember that shirt!

We used that same design for 2 seasons. In 1987 Halbro supplied it but in 1988 Umbro were the manufacturer. Umbro's replica shirts also had their logo and the town crest sewn in. I used to have one back in the day.

I have an old GM Buses one knocking about somewhere.

I think the first GM Buses one was 88-89? The sponsor was massive and took up the entire front of the shirt.

The season after it was smaller, always picture Chris Johnson and Ian Jeffries in those tops!
