Quote: Starbug "What is interesting is that the last three posters all have different opinions of how the club needs to operate in the future

Two of them are happy for Leigh to remain a charity , one will only be happy when it becomes a true business'"

It will be very difficult for Leigh to ever be successful and not lose money, as is the case at most sports clubs not a global brand. The solution is forecasting realistic losses with a business plan and having them covered, so if you outperform via implementing basic business principals you have money in the bank.

What is evident is that our trading agreement with LSV provides little future outside SL or without significant external funding - we must change that.

MO our fans need to realise they must start doing something themselves ,we have had plentiful ideas on here , but very little of people doing something icon_eek.gif Lynda does more than her share ,Derek is doing great work with the Forcast Comp , our Poker Nights are better than ever now ,but we still need more ,yes we need ideas ,but we need people to put the ideas into practice, then we need supporters to support the ideas ,functions ,and moneyraising events ,are the fans prepared to do this?

If i had a few dozen Lyndas,Dereks ,and say Brian Wards ,the sky would be the Limit, nobody wants our great club to die ,but we need fans supporting the events to .

At a recent Quiz Night the attendance was terrible ,the effort put in by organisers didnt deserve it , even 3 players attended God knows what they thought ,so lets have more action with Support not just ideas.

Charlie, that basically supports what I said. Any organisation needs leaders to motivate and drive them, taking the workforce with them ensures success - members will follow not lead.

one of the biggest problems is direct contact with speccies. at Hilton Park most people could be found in the MM bar after the match where fund raisers could sell tickets( raffle icon_biggrin.gifAISY: or dinner) by asking. a DINNER COULD AND WAS ARRANDED by a committee of dedicated people( me included) who gave their time and committment to the cause. A successful dinner could easily raise £5000 on the night all of which was used by the club for various things. This committe is now defunct, apart from two, due mainly to the being no mixing anywhere with possible ticketg buyers. Untill that changes cant see any way of getting sectators togetrher. Most people after a match cant wait to get to a local watering hole for cheaper beer and food. Still hope LISA can generate more members etc etc . God Save The Queen. icon_biggrin.gifAISY:

This time I m trying to get more things that will encourage a LISA member to stay A lisa member, 3 local businesses are already in talks over discounts for using their businesses.
I have asked at the club, to see if something can be done for next season, they are going to be considering it.
If we can get 1000 + members a way to keep them would be having the benefits of being a member worthwhile.
Coach travel to away games£1.50 saving, then discounts from local busines shops etc.
What I need in a way of help is someone who can sell, selling it out there for me. Lets say ASDA for example, offered LISA members 5% discount, and given that they will have more competition very soon for their business, then LISA members would shop at ASDA most probably. ASDA make money and LISA can probably keep the majority of their members.

AS Charlie said the last event we did the quiz night was a good night but very poorly attended despite it having players from the club entering and it was advertised they would be.
I was embrarassed by it to be honest.
The Squash Club put on good food, and it was very cheap, but given the turn out we made about £70, which is just not good enough. This included a raffle with good prizes etc.

Can I ask how many people attended the quiz??

As for discount at Asda Lynda, I'd say you have no chance it's the lowest priced food retailer, the reason being there is no loyalty gimmicks everything is already invested in creating the lowest possible retail price.

LISA hasn't learned anything from any statement , it already knew that eventually we would be in this situation , it has tried to organize events and money making initiatives , but on the whole they haven't been supported

If whoever comes in just follows the same pattern that has gone before we will be in the same situation we currently are again in a few years'"

Steve there lies most of the problem, who is LISA. As you are speaking for them now are you on the committee?? The only active committee member I know of his Lynda who can't possibly do everything. Peter does a great job looking after the accounts but the rest.....

For me LISA needs active committee members and if they can't be active they need to be replaced from the top table. Other things such as a regular monthly meetings are a must.

Lots to consider .....

But we dont have and never will have the equivilant of the MM bar again , therefore the idea of having functions that raise £ 5,000 has also gone forever , we need new ways of communicating with our fans , but that requires help from technically minded people

Who wants to volunteer ? , but not the usual faces thanks

Totally agree Lynda and I think sticking to local businesses will work. Can Trevor or Braddy not provide a contact list of local companies who already work with the club in some way??

As for the quiz Lynda that means 25% of your members attended which is a good turn out. Potentially fast forward 3 months and with 1000 members to reach out to your attendance could be 250???

Most certainly not , I am not too happy with Lynda being on the committee either , as I see the amount of work involved , you are quite right it needs more top table support , volunteer away

Plenty of ways to run events to raise such a figure as proved last year Steve. In fact that should one of LISA main KPI's each year

Nope , asking the same people for more is not the way , we need new and more , not more from the same

It wasn't all members who attended , it was open to everybody that watches the club , and was advertised as such , so it was around 20 people out of 2,000 , so more like 1 % of the people aware of it , and those people being who it was to ultimatly benifit
