Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

You may well do Fred and I heard dads and mums using choice language when I was watching my 12 year old lad at the weekend. But the parents behavour and the flute song do one and the same thing. They put their clubs in a bad light. This club is now on the up, lets all pull together and build this club bigger and better than ever before. Every time that rubbish is sung en masse we take a step backwards. We land on a snake instead of a ladder and we are choosing the number of places we move.

| Not keen on it myself - sort of feel for the young ones around - but where do you get off banning songs with offensive words in? Most chants / songs have them in presumably for the shock value??
Personally I never used to swear - then I met frankb

| Well, if anything is going to make this song more popular at the next match, this is it.
Partly, this seems to be a pretty strong Leighite trait of not wanting to be told what to do, which is admirable enough, but when there seem to be a lot of people who are on the inside who are uncomfortable about the song, then it's not quite the same thing, is it? After all, unless I'm mistaken, this most recently has come out of a comment by a Leigh fan, not Richard Lewis, or anyone from WN1.
I've not been to watch Leigh for a good while (hence not posting very much), but my kids are old enough to start coming up to watch a match, and this isn't the sort of thing that would stop me bringing them. I would tell them what I think about it if they asked, and it wouldn't take long. But honestly, is repeatedly defining yourself by what you hate particularly healthy?

They did and who cared then ? The players sing it for camaraderie good.
Those of us who think this is a storm in a teacup are ahead.

| They do. It's the players sing song after a win. Proper over reaction. It's just another song sung on the terraces, not all that often any more but the odd one offs aren't going to change the world or peoples opinion of Leigh and our fans, it doesn't cause fighting or any direct insult like 'your mums your dad', 'sheep shaggers' chants etc which IMO are far worse!
It was the first Leigh rugby song I heard and learnt as a 10 yr old watching Leigh and it was a lot more common back then than it is now!

That's right, they do!
However if the RFL started too fine the club over it, would you as a fan still sing it, knowing it would get the club in bother?

| Are there W1ganers playing for Leigh? Will W1ganers in the future be playing for Leigh? I would be surprised (and hope they don't) sing it word for word.
Why oh why do we have the "well school kids say worse in the school yard", or "other clubs chant this and that" ? Why oh why can we not be leading the way in getting the family club image in RL? Can't ban the song of course, but it would help if the club stopped playing the tune that encourages it to be sang, and it would help if fans looked at it themselves properly and think of the club and maybe realise it is a bit dated and does not involve supporting Leigh by singing it.
