Stanton got my man of the match today, some lovely runs and cracking tackles.
Hilly as usual, full of effort and it was good to see Jimmy T back on the field
How many of our lads can run forwards with the ball ? I saw more running sideways today than against Warrington last week and some of these lads were 1/2 the size.
Well done to the young Wigan lads today, faster play of the ball and never giving up - hope we learned a few things today

| Poor, poor display but a win none the less. Things can only get better and todays game was certainly a good test that lads needed. Stanton was my man of the match, took his tries well and constantly working hard. Any chance of Ben Davies (thier number on a dual contract? Played fantastic.

| I didn't go today, but people shot me down for saying it will be a test for us and we shouldn't take anything against these guys for granted...
Thier forward pack is a very quick, powerful, go forward one and it seems, from reading about that's where they were better than us.

| Well we could have done better but I think P Bentham's unbiased reffing didn't help our side.
Our two best were C Hill and Stanton and I thought Goulden had a good game too.
The Wigan side are well drilled' full time' superbly fit and would beat several championship sides in my view.
Hartley can pass a ball but does he ever run when in attack ? MOM well I honestly must have missed something.
Early days but we missed a few players too don't forget.
The only ones who heard the final hooter seemed to be in the West stand. I didn't hear it last week either.

| My one word was disapointing.
I thought the Wig4n lads tackled tremendously today - you could tell that most of them have played together for a couple of years. Having said that we should have had enough guile to break them down more than 3 times.
The referee was appalling, missing many calls, making strange decisions (obstruction/crossing ) and 75 minutes before the first penalty for a head high tackle. Was he trying to keep the game flowing by not blowing up for obvious infringements?
Please someone help me work out as to why Ste Maden was given MOTM? What extra did he do compared to all the others who took the field? Am I becoming paranoid about his performances? Please could someone enlighten me on this aswel as Armistead. I have yet to see anything from this guy which tells me he should be a regular in the squad. Maybe I watch a different game or have learned nothing about rugby in the past 40 odd years.
Stanton was my MOTM.
I thought Hartley showed glimpses of what a good acquisition he has been with his good fast hands and intelligent probing kicks.
Most of the team were below par and must improve.
No match practice to get it right before Oldham so lets hope it all clicks in training.
Overall - Diasappointed
Most of the other players played below par

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Very poor display
Possibly because we knew it was an academy side , we didnt raise our game
We were much better last week in the second half
For the W1g4n team their best player was Ben Davies , they lost their forword motion when he went off and regained it when he came back on [ well done Ben , it's good to see the pie's now actually giving you the ball ]
A lot of work to be done this week if we are to be certain of starting this years campaign with a win

could not agree more he needs to attack the line more and stop taking the safe option.
i was critical of ridyard last season but we look a better team with him at 6, he has improved a lot in my eyes.
lets not judge our team just yet

| Stanton was easily the best Leigh player on the pitch today. Twice the ball was passed out wide to him and twice he went in at the corner. We really should spread the ball round more and stop playing 1 man rugby through the middle.
Hartley looks to getting better but I thought Robbie Paul was very quiet all through the game. Ridyard brought a bit of variety to the passing when he came on and was unlucky with his chip and chase that was just a little over hit.
And why does everyone seem to rave on about Lealaui??? In 2 games I have seem him pass the the ball twice. He made little or no ground last week but that was against strong opposition. Today he was thrown around like a rag doll by Wig&ns U21 team and driven backwards several times.
But at least we won!!!

| Who did get MOM? Some say Maden some say Hartley. In my view neither should have got it. I would like to see Martin Ridyard at 6 next sunday. I would like Maden to concentrate on his game instead of wanting to fight all the time. The unbiased ref also let a very high shot go from Armistead and Dave was offside at the play of the ball loads and never got pulled and he was stood at the side of Phil Bentham. Not impressed today with the game as a whole, apart from Wigans defence and quick play. One thing I have noticed is Mike Morrison looks to have quickend. Thanks to the morons bringing the flute song back to the terraces. You really do know how to drag a club through the gutter. When oh when will you grow up.

| Well my view is we have had 2 friendlies we haven,t played a side that matters yet. Next week does and the Barrow game will be the test.
Re the flute song I am astonished that it winds people up as much as it does. The surprising thing is it is usually not the opposition fans who worry about it.
We could have done better today more locals attending would be nice.We have to realise that is is a long hard road. Us regulars have known that for a long time.
The players will know'well some of them' that they will have to do better.
I think they will. One less than impressive performance and some are down in the dumps. Well we'll see soon enough but whatever I doubt I will miss many games.
