We definitely have some over payed players at the club then, i cant get my head round how teams like Barrow get some much quality in under the cap if we are at max with our young squad.

Do players under 21 count on the salary cap?

The club can,t quite be up to the salary cap if we can offer a contract to an Australian stand off and also offer to take players on loan.

I realise however there can,t be much in the kitty.

I am not sure about that , but that is another area where the NL1s representatives at the RFLs junket days should start to do some tough talking at their meetings at the posh away days instead of just being noding dogs
I would get together with all the other clubs below Super League and insist that if your club brings a young player through your Service Area or Acadamy and he breaks into the first team he should be exempt from the salary cap. That way it encourages clubs to spend money on youth development and you can afford to pay these lads instead of some SL side taking them straight off you.You could always have an age limit like 21/22 so you get a return on your investment.If you are doing it right as well which it apears Leigh does you should also have plenty of money over to buy a few experianced big names to help pull them along.
I would love to go to these junket meetings to see what happens each club has a rep and NL1 and below outnumber the Soooper Dooper reps but we always get shortchanged for some reason.

For the avoidance of doubt this means players need to be under 21 years of age on August 31st 2008. However there is no credit granted against Salary Cap cost for U21 players loaned out to other clubs see 6.4.2

I thought crowds would have increased significantly when Martyn signed. It was talked about for a few years that he may sign, and for us a dream signing when it finally happened. Crowds did not show that in 2004 - crowds very poor for league games and considering we was doing well.

Thanks for the clarification , so how about if you have invested in a young player through his playing carreer and he gets into the first team he becomes exempt from the salary cap regardless of age. Of course if he chooses to move on, the team who takes him will have to adhere to the cap. You are then rewarded for investing in youth and you can then afford to pay a few players to come in and play for you?

I have done a fair bit over a few years I was the main sponsor for both acadamy teams that we were runing at the time I have also sponsored individuals eg Penky when he came through our youth system .If your refering to our club we have brought plenty through and at the moment we have Penky and Haley who have come through our acadamy system.But that was not the point I was making.
My comments were not directed at any clubs they were directed at the R.F.L. who should be rewarding clubs like yours who have and continue to provide good players to the rugby community .iYour club should be then rewarded by players you have brought through not counting on the salary cap when they play for you.

Errr Frank I did write this AFTER the contract offer to the Aussie, like I said if anyone doesn't believe me then ask, I did.

I have recieved a communication from a very good source (not connected to Leigh Centurions in any way) who has contacted me after reading the crap posted on this board about Loan players agents and Leigh Centurions.
He tells me he has contacted three of the most active agents in the area and none of them have any problem at all in working with Leigh Centurions, I don't know who is feeding folk all this tripe but its obviously someone with either a big grudge or a big chip on their shoulder, for its all lies and repeating it with out the required proof can be both dangerous and damaging to both club and agents, so my advice -get your facts right and dont post such drivel, like I said I believe my source to the letter for he has nothing at all to gain or lose by telling me what he did, but I suppose again the truth isnt exciting as rumour and lies
