Quote: Leyther Always "Why is it negative to ask what they do?

I also don't know anything that they do but have no perference over Miners/East so don't use that excuse for my 'negative' question either.'"

Who said it was negative?

look harder its well publicised
so I need no 'excuse' thats what others should have for not knowing what goes on

That the RFL know more about what the Community Dept does speaks volumes about how much some of our own care about aspects of the club apart from on the field matters

Fred without getting into a slanging match with you ,my question has nothing to do with being connected with any club in the town and by the way you are behind times.

I am speaking with quite a bit of knowledge on this subject and the same question has been asked about other awards dished out by the RFL to the RFL.

The question asked by Mr Fittler was a fair and legitimate one actions speak louder than words and all he was asking for is some concrete evidence.

It should not be to difficult to provide.

It does not detract from the award , Mr Fittler as a volunteer in our sport is surely allowed to ask the question as he is giving his time up coaching kids week in week out. And if he does not know what they do THEN surely that creates a problem within the community does it not ?
And for the record Fred I have been the secretary of a local open age side for the last two and a half years and have had no contact what so ever from The Community Department .

Being as you are a well established side and primarily open age , it would be unlikely you would have contact , they mainly work in schools at junior and intermediate levels

Also quite true , although ' closing ' the deal as in converting a one off ' freebie ' attendee into an actual lifelong fan requires a lot more work

Not sure what concrete evidence anyone needs, people on here often post that the community dept are active in their kids schools, even Peawapp started a thread about his grandson involved in a summer camp they ran, I often see schools going round the pitch at LSV, and the RFL must feel they are doing something right.

I don't know who Mr Fittler is but if he is a member of LMR coaching staff, then he can either contact me by pm or John Horan/Dave Wardle at his own club and we will try to update him on some of the activities ongoing between the Community department and the amateur clubs.

When the Amateur Forum was established its aims primarily were to improve the working relationship between the pro and junior amateur clubs, something I notified you of in your other capacity, but as secretary of another club I'm sure if you contacted them/us with any requests or suggestions they would be given due consideration.

Not sure why you are getting so defensive about this - there is no bigger life-long Leigh supporter than myself and I have nothing but respect for our club and as someone involved in the sport I was interested to learn what projects are undertaken in and around our town. Clearly from other posts I am not the only one who would be interested to know.

If the club are doing such good work in the community then why isn't it more widely publicised? Surely this would be a step to increasing support for our club!

Okay perhaps not a massive impact but surely if it is in the mindset of the local people that Leigh is a club involved in the community then perhaps one or two might show an interest back in the club.

No not really , the actual community work , the going into the schools is what would/should help increase the Centurions fan base , but does it ?

Not really , the reason why ?

It isn't followed up well enough , marketing is what is required , and that costs

When The Watcher looks around the crowd on match days at LSV he believes that there are a couple of lost generations of supporters. Leigh RLFC can not afford to lose any more. The Watcher repeats his mantra, that may well save the club from extinction, LET ALL 16 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER IN FOR NOWT NO STRINGS ATTACHED.

To be fair I can understand people not knowing what they do, I've said myself in the past, at times they're better than MI5 at keeping secretes.

We don't promote/market games so we're hardly going to advertise that this week John Duffy is say in Smithhills High School, or Heather is at Higher Folds Primary, but the info on what they do is there if you look for it or ask.
