Leigh to win challenge cup before 2020 Leigh to reach Grand Final by 2022 Derek to get a queens honour (mbe) by 2025 Oh Leigh oh Leigh oh Leigh //www.tipsterste.fabpage.com/
Ricky Bibey = cack. He's no good - the lad is huge but couldn't bust through a wet paper bag. He was crap at Wigan, he was crap here, and christ knows why Saints then signed him. Predictably, he was crap there as well. He's now where he belongs, in NL1.
:White Backgrounds/Gonzo the Great.gif

Quote: maurice "A few observations

1.2013 we were down to 1100 paying fans with a team challenging for top spot - the club failed to pay its PT players on a pittance and had a tax bill unpaid that was about to wind the club up
2. A rallying call went out for fans to provide some cash initially then direction to take the club forward - I do not recall you at those meetings and the level of cash asked wasn't great
3. The change in strategy and on field success drew in new fans, to such a level that our 2017 demotion drew a greater gate than our '82 success. Derek funded that period, he put his hand up then really put his hand up
4. Failure to Back it by DB in 2018 - that is just about the most clueless comment ever seen on this board. We entered the season odds on favourites because of how he backed up the relegation with the squad assembled - is that too hard for some to digest?
5. Due to the shocking failure of 2018 we needed to shed a million pound off the playing budget the option was administration, a position that would allow the creditors some tax benefits on what was owed, ie DB,
6. We failed to attract any serious investment after DB offered his shares and to wipe the debt off. I spoke to a few local lads who done good - not interested - common theme why put my hard earned in to attract abuse, rather sponsor games and have a box. Nobody puts in £1.4m in order to lose it like we did.
7. We are where we are. We have been here before and will be here again, the stakeholders of any sports club are its fans - that will never change - today I will renew our 2 season tickets whilst buying a 3rd as a Christmas present for a PT fan. At the weekend I spoke to a few lads about doing something away from the club which may or may not take off. I am a huge advocate of fan ownership, I believe we should have a share issue to spread the burden and create the financial clout to have a real pop at SL again because to do so will require significant input above what we can realistically achieve via gate and sponsorship.'"

With respect I question your figure of a £1.4m investment. Was that the investment used prior to promotion to SL? I recall you stating how much it cost to run the club, and without DB we wouldn't have one.
So how does it equate now for 2019, that you can run a club on £350k ? And still have those running costs, without financial input?

The wage bill was paid for in 2017. So what investment was made in 2017? I recall to break even without investment for that year was an average home attendance of 5,500. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the figure was boasted and more than matched.

So yes they maybe clueless comments, but your own don't add up.

How much and when isn't really any of our business or even revelant . Derek has invested a substantial amount , the exact amount is his business and his business alone

We were in a bad place unable to pay wages and tax when he got back involved , since then we've been in SL and essentially paid or come to agreement to pay everybody

If he's still involved , albeit without committing to major investment ATM , but no doubt still covering some shortfalls of which there are many when running a sports club , and he is happy with that , then I for one am happy that he is still around

Some seem to believe or want to believe he's saving up for another tilt at SL when Mr Argyles millions are out of the way , me , I couldn't care less and as long as he's willing to keep us operating then I'm happy with whatever financial ' back up ' he is willing to commit to

As I've put , I personally believe we need to look to at working much harder to build our one primary long term source of income , fans

What's irrelevant usually becomes relevant because the latter is ignored. People in the know spouting what should been done to protect their own interest is irrelevant to me. That has been shown in many posts.

As for your ideas Starbug,I would back them all day long. icon_wink.gif

What's relevant is that what's gone is gone. What we should now all be doing is concentrating on what we can do to make the future brighter. Buy your STs/attend as many games as you can/ buy the shirts etc. And above all make the LSV loud and proud because at the end of the day we are and always will be LEYTHERS.

I simply cannot comprehend all those who criticize what DB has brought to the club, OK, we are told he may have ventured into different aspects and functions within the club that with his limited expierence he should have let those who knew better get on with, but in hindsight the club was doing far better on the field of play than when he succumbed to the criticism he recieved, so he took a step backwards and employed and put his trust in Kieron Cunningham a mistake of catastrophic proportions as events have prooved.
Those who write on sites such as this do so mainly because they have the club at heart, we put in our own suggestions for the betterment of the club not to harm it, the reason we write comments is that we are naturally reactive not passive that is why we take the trouble to write in the first place. I would wager not one man jack of us had we payed for that privilege as DB has done would not have wanted a say in how OUR money was being utilised.
DB has done OK in life, and he could quite easily spend his well earned on anything he wanted, but in doing what he did in the case of Leigh Centurions he effectively shared a lot money with the people of the town of Leigh Lancashire, whatever he does in the future I for one will be grateful for the journey he has taken us on these past few seasons.
If he does has he has hinted, take the club on a year of relative fallow ground with the team till TWP are out of the way, then I wish him all the best if he decides to have another go, if the saying you have to "pay to learn" is correct then I can't wait for the next instalment hoping that with expierence he comes back bigger and better.

There’s lots of people who own businesses but don’t get involved in day to day running, recruitment procurement etc, they leave it to and trust those they’ve employed, if that’s not working they change those employees.

The company I work for the Chairman owns 52% but has no involvement other than an annual board meeting with the two other directors.

If DB needs to get involved and micro manage those around him then he’s employing the wrong calibre of people.
