I like the play off system. I think to be called the best team you have to be consistent over the year and also be able to play knock out rugby.

If you look at teams achievements you have Fev who finished top but went out in the semi final of the playoffs and first round of the NRC.

Leigh won the NRC and went out in the first stage of the playoffs after finishing 4th in the League.

Fax 3rd in the league and semi final of the playoffs but 1st round of the NRC.

Sheffield 2nd in the league, Grand final, CC QF(Which cost them the NRC imo), and NRC final. I would be surprised if they didnt win the final.

If they did win the final it would be really hard to make an argument that anyone other than Sheffield has been the best team overall this year at this level.

Fair comment about Sheffield. They've been consistently good all season.

However, what if Batley won the GF? (and good luck to them) Would they be the 'best' team in the Championship, to be 'promoted'? Indeed, to take the most ridiculous scenario - what if Dewsbury (from 7th with 14 defeats) or Workington (from 8th with 15 defeats) had won the GF? Unlikely, I know, but not impossible - wouldn't it be ludicrous to promote someone who had 'enjoyed' that kind of season?

I love the play offs. Everyone in recent years has complained about 'pointless' games and without them they would have been pointless, but the playoffs really bring the back end of the season alive with something to play for (cold hard cash).

But the league games are pointless mish as the winners of the league games isn't classed as the champions and as long as you are in the top 8 you have a crack at winning the main trophy, I would still keep an end of season comp but as a separate cup not one that decides the overall winners, just my opinion of course.

But in lieu of that I would rather have the playoffs than nothing at all.

You'd still get the cash for winning the playoffs.

How about promotion for the top of the league - but the prize money goes to the GF winners??

That way both have an incentive.
