| The game's dying a slow death & teams that could fold will be another enevitable nail in the RL cofin. Why shouldn't we speculate what we're seeing infront of our eyes we all have concerns for the welfare of our sport

Generally not the best 1 year deals, clubs, coaches and players would benefit from more continuity and a reduced player turn over.

Causes a problem if a player gets a bad injury, as Ricky did, and then clubs are tied down to paying his wages for a couple of years for minimal appearances. Being on one year deals also meant that we could offer reduced terms for much of the contracts offered for 2012, whereas if most of last year's squad were still tied to bigger contracts then we wouldn't have had the chance to restructure the budget to something more affordable.

Wrong way to look at IMO, Clubs Coaches and players would prefer continuity and a settled side with a steady player turn over, to get used to systems styles and each other, anyone can pick out isolated reasons why 1 year deals are ok but in reality they don’t particularly help improve side’s teams or clubs.

I agree to a certain extent and there's nothing to stop clubs extending contracts during the season, but a club would find itself in serious financial difficulty if it had a couple of lads on 2-3 year deals and they pick up a bad injury early on.

Totally different issue that Matt, that ones about a stable club and running it correctly, any stable club run correctly, would not be offering 1 year deals.

Doesn't look like you'll get Phil Vievers as your new coach, Matt Parish has quit at Salford.

| I was told Veivers had not applied for the Leigh job.
We have as has been reported 3 applicants.
For the record one of the three isn't Malcolm Alker.

Thats what insurance is for. Most clubs pay off long term injured players with it

| Quote: Leyther_Matt "As they're short on numbers on the board Maurice, I'm sure KF/PC/TB will appreciate you coming on board with your expert knowledge. Breaking our pay structure and the problems it will cause is a genius idea, I must say. Good player, but Darren Lockyer he is not. Why should the likes of Taylor, Duffy, Littler etc be 'rewarded' for their loyalty by the club going back on their pay structure to increase a deal that had previously been agreed?'"
IMO to sit on the board you should guarantee a minimum investment each year, I believe that investment should be circa £25k and that we need £150k pa to top up income to meet ambition - I currently do not have the spare £25k so I would be a hypocrite to do as you suggest. I realise it will have gone over the head of a wannabe clerk but at least I tried
