I wouldn't have thought so Keith this club under our Directorship is inclusive not exclusive.
I'm sure the past players is destined for success and any former coaches of the club are also integral figures in the make up of our clubs history and would be welcomed by myself and my fellow directors.
You are welcome always pal.'"
This thread isn't about the club, it is about the Players Association.

Quote: Leigh CPA "Of course coaches have been an important part of the club - without them we wouldn't have got picked!
Obviously it is a players association, however, we have discussed the idea of having 'associate' members. How we do this we haven't decided but it is something we are thinking about!
Who would we class as an associate member? Do we just include coaches? What about strength & fitness coaches, medical staff? (My wife Karen spent nearly 10 years as physio!) It is something we need to get right.
We are open to ideas, so please send us some!
I presume the players association is going to be working with the Heritage Numbers when that is released (should be very interesting and I'm looking forward to it), that should be one of the main purposes of the players association, keeping the history of the club alive. I think that should be the key to associate membership, how important people were to the history of the club, in 20 or 50 or 100 years people will want to know that Paul Rowley was the coach that got us into Super League and John Roddy was the chairman with an excellent board round him that secured the future of the club in the top flight, I don't think there'll be quite as much interest in who was water carrier or ball boy at the time (despite the essential job they do).

With all due respect there are circumstances where there will be interest in who the water carrier was...there's one at the club now, probably been there for 15 years+, I wouldn't like to put a number on the amount of lifelong friendships he's made at the club.

| I talk on a regular basis to an ex-coach of ours , one Tommy Dickens , he always speaks highly of the Club and says how both he and brother Martin enjoyed their days at Leigh , he told one story of an Old guy who always gave him Grief when he came out at Hilton Park , near the Dug -out , it may have been Salfordlad , he said even after winning the Second Division League , this guy asked him , when are you pi44ing off back to Wigan . .Could have been WISIWYG though .

Gents,
It is fantastic reading through this and how you value former players of the club.
I have made contact with Tommy Dickens, and he is coming on board the association. Rod Tickle has sent me some pictures which I've put on twitter @leighcpa - Rod has got me email for Tony Barrow. It is snowballing nicely!
I can't believe that Dave Jones (my teacher from St Peters who got me - and many others into rugby) this week told me about his father-in-law who is Dick Breare, he played for Leigh either side of the war!
The heritage numbers could be fantastic for the club. Plans are in place for something special and if it comes off could be emotional and give the club some well deserved praise for the way they are handing their history.
We have had 166 players make just 1 appearance for the club, but like Mike Latham said to me, their are supporters out there who would love to have played 1 game. These players are still part of the history and are credited with their unique heritage number. I know some lads are a little embarrassed about this and feel they don't deserve to be mentioned alongside some of the great names who have worn the shirt.
I have been privy to seeing he numbers and around 900 pictures Mike has sent to me. I've found it interesting and emotional looking back at the names on the list!
We are also looking at getting a re-union together with the 71 Wembley team when David Eckersley is over later this year.
This could be an exciting times for the history of Leigh and I urge ALL former players whether they have played 1 game or a 100 games to get in touch.

I was privileged to see the heritage numbers myself a few months ago and it's an amazing piece of work compiled by Mike and some very dedicated people helping along the way.
This truly is massive for the club and opens up so many other doors.
You are doing a fantastic job with the past players and it really is great to see the old faces around the club on match day.
Long may it continue, well done.
Best Wishes

| We must publicly thank Mike Latham and his team on the great work they have done over the years for Leigh.
Having been on contact with Mike, he feels encouraged by the club with the ideas which have been discussed regarding the heritage numbers. It's given him the enthusiasm to dig further and find stories he has archived about Leigh from the very early days. I'm sure he will put something together that will inform, entertain and raise the profile of Leigh Centurions.
I'm making contact on a daily basis of players who I have never met but heard of. These players are hoping to support the association. We have had around 1350 players play for Leigh since 1895. I really do hope we can get surviving members on board to support our cause.
I will be in the Legends bar on Sunday, representing the association, doing a Q&A with Clive - I hope to see you there.

| Can anyone confirm if we had a player named Gerry Rothwell. Gerry is 70 now so it would be late 50s or 60s.

We have a Gerry Rothwell who made his debut against Australia 18th September 1937.
