We should be concentrating on our current position not theirs imo and quite frankly I am astonished at the team we will be able to field this coming season. A scenario most of us would not have considered a possibility a couple of months ago.
Well done to our current board I say.'"
My sentiments exactly Frank.

Not our players, out of contract players, that's why 1 year contracts are crap.

| I can't see what all the aggro is about what Swinton can/can't afford to pay. Yes, we get better gates than them but, presumably they have generous backers, and we currently don't. (I'm not talking about spsonsors/advertisers here)
Good luck to them - I'm sure their club is being run sensibly, given the trials and tribulations they have suffered over the years.
As for Bracek, good luck to him too, if he can get a better contract elsewhere. It is, unfortunately, essential that we do not break our own budgets to satisfy the demands of players we can't afford.
It's really none of our business 'where Swinton's money comes from - far better for us to concentrate on where ours is going to come from!

| The game's dying a slow death & teams that could fold will be another enevitable nail in the RL cofin. Why shouldn't we speculate what we're seeing infront of our eyes we all have concerns for the welfare of our sport

Generally not the best 1 year deals, clubs, coaches and players would benefit from more continuity and a reduced player turn over.

Causes a problem if a player gets a bad injury, as Ricky did, and then clubs are tied down to paying his wages for a couple of years for minimal appearances. Being on one year deals also meant that we could offer reduced terms for much of the contracts offered for 2012, whereas if most of last year's squad were still tied to bigger contracts then we wouldn't have had the chance to restructure the budget to something more affordable.

Wrong way to look at IMO, Clubs Coaches and players would prefer continuity and a settled side with a steady player turn over, to get used to systems styles and each other, anyone can pick out isolated reasons why 1 year deals are ok but in reality they don’t particularly help improve side’s teams or clubs.

I agree to a certain extent and there's nothing to stop clubs extending contracts during the season, but a club would find itself in serious financial difficulty if it had a couple of lads on 2-3 year deals and they pick up a bad injury early on.
