What players are we talking about? The players named in the post that I quoted.

DB states we are running as a Super League club,with a Super League salary cap. Why would we have to boot players of that quality to make room on the cap?

But space on the cap would've been a benefit, if not the main reason?

My only point was, making a signing as major as Hayne, on top of already signing Tickle, Brown and Dawson, would be more feasible with a few players off loaded.

We don't need space on the cap, we did need to rid the potential bad apples out before the main event

DB said in his column that he had been talking to the RFL to see how much leeway he had when discussing Hayne. So we were probably closer to the cap than you think.

Either way, getting Bob and Barlow off the wage bill can't be a bad thing, given they've not played all season anyway

I'm not arguing that we didn't need rid for those reasons. Just suggesting that a by product of getting rid is more room on the cap.

Probably was close to £1.3m but seeing as that has risen to £1.8m,possibly the conversation with the RFL was one of increasing the salary cap.
