Quote: jpleigh "Given the state of the clubs finances I think we need an accountant on the Board. The LISA treasurer is an accountant and perhaps he should be asked to represent us.'"

The club have enough financial expertise at their disposal, the figures involved are not difficult enough to need a dedicated accountant

So in summary

Director - NO
Shareholding - YES
Can they take the money - NO
Financial Transparency - YES

I would buy that.

Ooops and folk now know that being a shareholder and a Director are very different icon_wink.gif

LISA acts in an advisory capacity by regular contact with the Board but with financial transparency as a shareholder.

Spoke with the LISA chairman last night, he said, when this was discussed at the LISA meeting last week, NO ONE HAD anything to say, no objections were given by anyone, so he wants us to continue with this, we will be organising to speak with the club soon, to discuss how it will work.
Over the last few days I've been fuming over this thread but Im not letting scaremongers ruin all our hard work.

Thanks to the LISA members on this thread for their advise, we will take it all on board before a final decision is made, however anyone else shouldn't comment, if their not a member.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you don't want general comment, then don't post it on a general site
Some of the posters may not be current members but I know some have contributed far more to LISA than most current members ever will.
This topic has been ongoing since 2003/4 and boy oh boy has some bullpooh been posted about it as most were/are clueless on the matter.
As a potential LISA member I would rejoin without hesitation if the organisation obtained a share in SCL, I would never attend a meeting but fully support the stakeholder/Supporters Trust concept as a way to avoid our regular implosions via transparency of accounts.

Apologies if I have upset anyone but I have declared from my first post that I am not a member and as this sort of thing is what I do for a living I thought some impartial advice may be appreciated.

I will refrain from further comment and wish you luck whatever LISA decides.

If it's any consolation i've agreed with everything you have posted on this thread and also the tone in which you have offered your advice.

Unfortunately it would appear that not everybody can see the obvious conflict with an independent body having a seat on the Board of an organisation they fundraise for. More so there is a failure to realise that the people who put themselves forward are the most unlikely to succeed in gaining Board approval to join as they would bring nothing to the party other than an inflated ego as to what they might be able to offer.

I presume you mean me, well if members want I will resign and have nothing else to do with it, I will continue to contribute funds wise but that s all if its want our members want, no problem at all, I will have a lot more time on my hands then wont I.
I just dont think anyone quite realises how much I do for LISA , but do know the club appriecate it.
However people like yourself hiding behind usernames could do a much better job then me Im sure.

Most of the comments on here Im ok with BTW, Toadstool etc good advice has been offered and we would have taken all of it into consideration, however some seem to want us to fail for some strange reason. All we want is to help our club in whatever way we can.

I don't think anyone wants LISA to fail, Lynda, but is definitely worth considering the potential ramifications of there being an official LISA representative on the board, again because (and I agree) that is does conflict with being an independant body.

As I said Matt something we need to discuss with board and iron out these areas before anything is set out.

We should remember that there was only about 25 members present out of the 400+ so big decisions like this should not go to a vote / comments on the night.

I don't think there's any way of deciding it other than a postal vote, otherwise you risk alienating members and therefore lose a lot more money in the wrong run.

With all due respect Lynda you have read how board members are treated sometimes on here if you are the LISA board rep you will have to grow a thicker skin, your hubby still gets blamed for things that happened 5 years ago that should be long dead and buried.

FrankB is only one member to reach all then a postal vote is a must as I would hazard a guess that e mails (from them that have e mail addresses) are not collected, it is the only way to reach all members.
